I am Ava and I worked with Eric at Woodhull hospital in Brooklyn NY in 2006. He was soft spoke and sweet, peculiar sometimes but so sweet. I am so sad to hear this loss of a bright soul. Rest well Eric,

OH my heart broke when I read this news. I never worked directly with Erik but he could not have been friendlier or more outgoing whenever he came to the CIS office. More than that, Erik was a neighbor and we would often run into one another walking our dogs. My condolences to the Volper family.

My deepest condolences for the family of Erik. I knew Erik in multiple capacities. I knew him as a mental health professional in education where he dedicated himself to connecting with students and supporting their personal growth and their belief in themselves. And I knew Erik as a soccer fanatic. I referee the game and refereed both Erik's adult team where he played and filled his cup, and his youth teams where he again gave to the strengthening and confidence building of youth. Thank you Erik for your life and I'm happy to have known you.

I played with Erik on several soccer teams, including the varsity at MHS, and will always remember him as a warm and funny (and very talented!) teammate. He had a joy for the game and brought a sense of camaraderie that was uniquely his, and I'm so, so sorry to hear this news. I'm thinking of him and all his family.

I grew up with Erik and we lived near each by the Brook in Larchmont. I’ll remember him forever as the funny and kind-spirited friend who used to make our Hebrew School carpool rides so much fun. From stops at Imperial market for after school snacks to (maybe…) creating a little mischief in the halls of Larchmont Temple, Erik was a sweet soul, gone far too soon. I’m heartbroken for his mother, sister, brother-in-law and nieces and for his friends and family near and far.

Erik worked at our group practice and was a pleasure to know. He was genuinely excited about the work he was doing and loved learning and growing as a therapist. In talking with his friends, family, and clients, I am deeply struck by how much he touched everyone that knew him. It's incredibly sad as Erik really felt like he was on such a great trajectory in every way... personally, professionally, and even relationally as he had recently met someone he was started to date and excited about it. Erik, if you are out there somewhere, I hope you know just how special of a person you are and that you inspired so many to want to be a better version of themselves. You will be missed.

I am writing on behalf of Explore Austin, a volunteer organization which Erik had become involved with over the last several months. Erik had been selected out of many applicants to make a 6-year dedication as a long-term Mentor for underserved Austin youth through outdoor adventure activities. We were so excited to bring him into our organization, as we could sense his genuine, caring nature, passion for service, youth, and sports, and vast knowledge base as a psychotherapist right away. Erik was able to attend a weekend campout retreat in February with his fellow Mentors and the staff of Explore Austin, where he made an impact on us all and forged strong friendships with the other volunteers in the program. We at Explore Austin are so thankful for the time we got to spend with Erik and the vast impact he made on the community around him as a friend and volunteer with our organization and others. I know his co-Mentors will carry on his memory and keep him in their hearts as they continue mentoring their group of kids.

I’ve known Erik since kindergarten and we were close growing up. I am in shock. I had the privilege of seeing Erik at work as an adult: I was doing some substitute teaching in Brooklyn around 2006. There was a student in my class who was wild and disruptive, and I was having trouble with him. Then in walks Erik, calm and solid. He said one or two words to the kid—something compassionate, knowing, but firm—and the kid calmed down immediately. It was clear that the exchange was built on a bond that had taken work. Erik then took him out for counseling. We talked only quickly. It was remarkable to see. I always understood that moment as Erik being a special resource for kids, giving them the kind of support that’s easy to deprive of the ones who “make trouble.” I admire him for it. I am heartbroken for this loss—for Hillary, Mandy and the rest of the family—and just terribly sad that more people will not be able to experience and benefit from his unique talent and gifts. All of my love to the Volper family.
