One of my earliest memories is of being the flower girl in Dick and Jean's wedding before I was 3. I thought that Jean had to be the most beautiful bride ever and I still have the black and white picture of her handing me my flower basket. Because we all lived in the same apartment building in New York City I visited their apartment very often, and the attraction became even greater after baby Bette was born. The summer I turned 5 we all moved out to Westchester. Even though we didn't see each other as often, the bonds remained very strong and I spent lots of time with the Heller family, even spending a summer with them when I was 8 and my parents were traveling through Scandanavia.
Even though I have spent my entire adult life in the western US, Dick and Jean have always had a big place in my life. They both helped me so much dealing with the death of my mother and all the details that entailed. When we were living in the mountains Dick and his kids and grandkids loved coming out to ski and we loved having them. Both Dick and Jean were always ready to listen to my concerns and help me work out different decisions. It is very sad to realize that link is completely broken, but I treasure the memories and I am blessed to have had both of them in my life.
