Obituary of Eleanor Mary Gordon

Eleanor (Ellie) Haviland Gordon of Larchmont, NY, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2021 in Greenwich, CT. She was 92.

Eleanor was born in New Rochelle, NY to Helen and Marston Haviland on June 17, 1929. She grew up in Larchmont, NY, where she attended elementary school at Murray Avenue School followed by  high school at Mount St. Mary in Newburgh, NY. After attending college at Albertus Magnus College and the Katharine Gibbs School, Eleanor worked as a secretary at the New York Times until she and her husband Carl started their family in 1956. 

With her sparkling smile, infectious laugh, sense of humor, and generous spirit, Ellie’s ebullience touched her friends, her family, and everyone who met her. She enjoyed classical music, collecting antiques and art, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and the many cats that found their way into her home. Ellie was active in the Women’s Club of Larchmont, where she was the Corresponding Secretary and worked on the Book and Author Luncheons. She was recently honored with a lifetime membership to the Women’s Club. 

Ellie is survived by her six children: Carla (Jolyon Dantzig) Kurt of Canton, CT, Paul (Janet) Gordon of Castro Valley, CA, Gabrielle (Charley) Pollock of Troy, OH, Matthew (Diane) Gordon of Greenwich, CT, Caroline (Brad) Wright of Kingsland, GA, and Catherine Gordon of New York, NY.; her ten grandchildren: Daniel Kurt, Sienna Gordon, Stephen Gordon, Dylan Pollock, Max Pollock, William Pollock, Walter Wright, Lucy Wright, Benjamin Wright, and Griffin Gordon; and her two great-grandchildren: Lydia Kurt and Carl Kurt. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Gordon.

Funeral service will be held at the Church of St. Augustine, 18 Cherry Avenue, Larchmont, NY on Saturday, December 4 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Louis P. Masi officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery, 79 Beechwood Ave, New Rochelle, NY. Visitation will be held at Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY on December 3 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

Friends are invited to join the family following the funeral from 1-3pm at Greenwich Water Club
