My Aunt Norma was like no other. Often times young children are annoyed when they have to go to "the relatives" on a Sunday afternoon. However, my sisters and I always looked forward to this outing. It was because we knew we would be sharing time not only with our favorite Uncle Teddy, but also with Aunt Norma. She always made us feel like equals. She included us in conversations no matter what age we were. Her inner beauty came out in her gentle smile and laughter. Unfortunately, being a child, I didn't appreciate her magnificent artistic talent until later in life. Norma was truly a renaissance woman. She was ahead of her time and a shining example for all young women to follow. Whatever she did, she did it with grace and elegance. I am truly blessed to have had her in my life. Dear Norma, may you rest in peace, and I thank you for all the love you gave me in so many ways. I am so very happy my sisters and I were able to visit with you a few years ago. You are in my prayers.

Norma Luther was a lovely woman. It was easy to joke with her and laugh. We visited with her in her later years and enjoyed lunch and, of course, ice cream. We are lucky to have one of her paintings. Pretty flowers, pink and blue.

As a kid I always looked up to my cousin Norma, not only for her grace and soft words, but because she was funny, smart, tall, and could ski. I didn’t know anyone who could ski.
And as I grew up there were other things that I learned about her. She always had something kind to say and was there to listen when I needed some counsel. I miss her.

Norma was the best grandmother I could've ever hoped for—she was so supportive and loving towards my sister and me, and was one of my biggest inspirations for pursuing a career in the art world. From her bond with the family dog, Travis, to her calm and gentle presence, to the dry, witty one-liners she'd pepper into every conversation, there are many, many things I will miss about her. Her love for art, animals, knick-knacks (she had a very curated, highly covetable collection of glassware, pottery, and home goods), fashion, and family was truly infectious, and through it, her spirit will live on. It was (and is) truly a privilege to be her granddaughter.

I am Norma's son and so happy (and honored) to be able to say that. She was as great a mom as she was a woman. Imagine being a teenaged girl and saying "I'd like to go to college, then perhaps art school, procure employment in an area where I can use my innate talents, meet a kind and loving man, have a couple of great (or not) kids, live in a community of warmth where I'll have lovely souls as friends, travel around the U.S. and, indeed, throughout Europe, meet and marry yet another kind and loving man should my husband predecease me, be able to paint and create art that will hopefully be loved by others who will hang my pieces in their homes and bring them daily joy, and live in good health for years before I pass peacefully knowing that all is well with my kids, grandkids, extended family and friends." Hey! Norma did that but WITHOUT ADVANCE PLANNING like the aforementioned teenaged girl! She never thought like that. She was simply cognizant of being kind and loving. There was not a calculating bone in her body. It happened organically, quietly and with great elegance. While she may be missed, she'll be so only physically -- there's no doubt she's still with us through her art, her smile and the love she bestowed on us all. You were a great gal Mom. RIP.

It was a pleasure for my sister Kathe and I to have known Norma through the friendship of our family with Norma, Teddy, Marilyn and Chris. Norma and our Mom, and Carol O'Gorman all graduated from Cooper Union in the same class and forged a friendship during art school which endured for over 70 years. This friendship kept the US Mail going with greeting cards on special occasions and letters with family news. The three couples, Norma and Teddy, Marilyn and Ed Francis, and Carol and Bill O'Gorman would have summer time backyard get togethers which the adults and kids all enjoyed. In later years Norma and Al continued the tradition with my parents and the O'Gormans by enjoying picnics, Cooper reunions, and outings to Culinary Institute of America together.
It was such a kind gesture when Norma learned of my Mom's passing in 2012 and kept the correspondence going with me, through
letters and emails, until she passed away. I treasured those letters and emails. Norma's kind and thoughtful ways will always be in my heart. If we all keep those connections of friendship alive, Norma's legacy will live on in all of us.
Sincerely,
Pam (Francis) Wilson

My grandmother had one of the kindest souls I've ever had the pleasure of knowing - one that made you feel calm & warm whenever you were in her presence. I will always hear her laugh, or how she would respond with "love you more" anytime we hung up the phone. I remember sorting through her closets of old trinkets and finding hidden treasures in her cozy apartment, and going to her art shows and being in awe of her work. When I was very young, I thought I wanted to grow up to be a fashion designer and she showed me her folders of old fashion illustrations - inspiring me and encouraging me to pursue those dreams. Although my dreams changed with time, she was always there to show endless support and kindness to her granddaughters.
Some of my favorite memories were seeing her with our family dog, Travis, and how much joy they brought to each other. We used to laugh about how excited he got when we would say "Grandma" because he knew he was going to see her. I could go on and on about what she meant to me, so for now I will leave it at this and say that I am eternally grateful to have these memories. She will continue to live on through her artwork, her sentiments, and all of the wonderful stories of her. I will hold them close for the rest of my life & hope to show the warmth and kindness that she did to all.

I so loved my dear Cousin Norma. I’ll always remember the beautiful and talented woman she was. Of course there are her wonderful paintings, her warm home, her delicious holiday dinners but most of all her kind and loving nature. I’ve always been very proud to have been named after her.

Norma and I met through the bridge game at Orienta. She was always patient with me as a newbie and lots of fun. She had a calm elegance about her. I loved when she invited me to the apartment and I got to see her art work. I miss her and our lunch and games.

Aunt Norma and Uncle Teddy......always our favorite family home to visit on the holidays or just to get together. They were truly our favorite Aunt and Uncle. Norma was so welcoming and caring about all of us for the time we were little to when we were joined by our children. The food was always so wonderful, the home so gracious and welcoming with all of Norma’s little touches. The jade plant in the tarnished copper pot on the windowsill. The Milky Way painted on Chris’s ceiling. We all have wonderful warm memories of our Aunt Norma and so blessed to have been part of her life.

Who could ever forget Norma’s laugh and sweet smile ?
Every time I saw her she looked lovely, such marvelous taste that she passed on to her wonderful daughter Marilyn.
I’m grateful to have had the honor of knowing such a splendid woman and thank her for the gift of her fantastic daughter, a true friend.
Many condolences to all who read this.
