Wendy and I were best friends in junior high. We drifted apart in high school, lost touch in our twenties, and reconnected in the early 1990s. I was astonished to learn that Dr. Irwin, who had been my father’s doctor at Morningside House, was also the love of Wendy’s life. I remember the excellent care he took of my father, and his kindness to me as I grieved my father’s decline. I was thrilled when Wendy and Mike married and moved to New Rochelle. They made me feel part of their family, and over many holiday gatherings at their home and get-togethers in the city, I got to experience Mike’s hospitality, generosity, sweetness, wit and humor—delivered with a big smile and an endearing twinkle—and his enduring love for my dear friend. I’m deeply sad that Mike is gone, and I will miss him. All my love to Wendy and their extended family.
