I have only just heard the sad of the news of Stephen’s passing away. Stephen was a gifted and inspiring leader. He recognised the abilities within others before they realised it themselves. Although I only worked with Stephen for a relatively short amount of time, he still pops into my mind as look back at the example he set. Heart felt condolences to Stephen’s family and friends.

I worked a summer job at a tennis club where Stephen was a member. Of all things that summer, Stephen's kindness was one of the most memorable aspects. I will never forget his outreach and mentorship to me when things were difficult. Rest In Peace Stephen.

I had the privilege of knowing Stephen through Live Ball Tennis. I was always thrilled to see Stephen on the court because he made everything more fun. Partnering with him was a true highlight – not because he was a fantastic player (he was), but because he was a fantastic person. Always encouraging, always supportive, always positive. As much as I admired his tennis prowess, I admired far more the content of his character. Tennis is a great crucible of character and being around Steve made me want to be a better person both on and off the court. I am beyond devastated. Sending thoughts and prayers to all who are grieving the loss of this truly great man.

It is with great sadness that I’ve learned about Stephen’s passing. He was a remarkable man with an extraordinary spirit, full of energy and positivity, someone that could brighten the entire room. Stephen had the unique gift of making you feel like you are his lifelong friend after knowing him for only a few minutes.
And family meant the world to him—although I mostly knew him as a tennis partner, I’ve learned so much about his family and children, he was so happy to talk about them and so excited to learn about my family.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to the Battalia family.

I am terribly sorry to hear of Stephen's passing. Stephen was a truly kind person -- his authentic desire to make a positive difference for others shone through everything he did during his time at the IB. I had cause to go to him to manage the details around a health issue -- he was clear, compassionate, and informative but beyond that, he asked if he could reach out to me while I was recovering just to check in (and he did). I know that wasn't a big deal to him -- it was just how he was -- but it meant a lot to me. He will be missed; my sincerest sympathy to his family and all who loved him.

Stephen was a truly warm, wonderful person. His last email to our team was so reflective of the wisdom he passed on: "Demonstrate authenticity, transparency and basic humanity"," coach ,coach ,coach", and ...."embrace conflict"...Stephen was a very special person who left his mark on all those who met him. He also loved his children deeply and many times shared with me stories of how proud he was of them. May he rest in peace.

I am so saddened to here of Stephen’s passing. He was one the great HRD’s at Nestle UK. He always was so kind and had your back no matter what position you were in. I remember once he was in the York office and a HR professional made me cry over the phone, he told me it would be ok, then called the person, who then apologised. He always made you feel valued, and he will be dearly missed. Sleep tight Stephen.

I am so saddened to hear of Stephen's passing. His compassionate approach to human relations was noted by so many colleagues. He had an open mind, an open door, and an open heart. He was full of exuberance and positive energy, and he was willing to go the extra mile to promote staff well-being. He truly valued our efforts to make the workplace more civil, more kind, and more mindful. In his last message to our staff, he reminded us that learning is at the core of survival, and then he recommended a reading about authenticity, transparency, and basic humanity. My deepest condolences to his family.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Stephen's passing this week.
He was a friend, colleague and client of mine.
We both shared a love for food, GWU, college basketball, Washington; DC; wine, cigars, our pets, tennis, providing great human resources services to clients, and the love of our children. We were also both blessed with many life-long friends, who will his smile, his superior intellect, and his generosity of spirit.
However, my loss pales in comparison with the loss of his children. I will keep Alley and Michael in my thoughts and prayers.

This news comes as a gut punch. Steve was one of my college roommates at GWU. We reconnected about 5 years ago, and we texted, remaining friends with indefinite plans to visit in person. While on a visit to Europe he thought to pick up some historical information for me, without having seen me since college, and was thoughtful enough to send so that he could share it with me. He and I shared some truly unique experiences as college roommates that exposed us to an unusual opportunity to grow in ways we never anticipated as college students but that provided life lessons that served us both well. While I'll always recall his infectious humor, his love of life, and pursuit of pinnacle experiences accompanied by friends, his lasting impact will be to remind me to grab life for all it's worth, to make real plans [including dates entered onto calendars], and to stay in active touch with people who make us smile. This isn't a rehearsal, people, let's get together with our favorite people, raise a glass to Steve, and get about the business of being our best selves in the company of our friends (both old and new). My sincerest condolences to all of the family and friends celebrating his life and grieving your loss.

I played liveball tennis with Stephen in Potomac, MD for the last few years. He was one of my favorite people on the court, so personable, so fun to play with, and SUCH a great tennis player. When we were on opposite sides, he would sometimes hit an easy one to me just to be nice, and because he was better than everyone out there. His touch and finesse was amazing. The last time I saw him was maybe two months ago and I seemed to be getting worse with age and he only seemed to be getting better. So I said to him, “do your kids know how good a tennis player you are???”
For some reason he called me Evie, even though I go by Eve, but I never corrected him, I liked that he called me that.
I am so very sad that he is gone. We won’t forget you, Stephen.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Stephen’s family. We both worked with Stephen over the many years he spent with Nestle USA. He was always kind, supportive, and went out of his way to ensure his people had a chance to grow. To quote my husband Maurizio Cascapera , “he will always have my love and respect and one of the best bosses I ever had.” When Nestle USA moved from Glendale to Virginia, Stephen was the first to welcome our company to the DC area. He worked on several projects as we were trying to staff up and was always connecting and networking great relationships. We will always remember him for the footprint he made on many lives. Our sincere condolences, may he Rest In Peace. Maurizio and Judy Cascapera
