I am a cousin of Howard's, and I remember fondly the days my family would spend with him and Mary Jane on his boat on the Long Island Sound. I still remember the excitement and fear the first time he let me pilot the boat, as well as how refreshing the water felt when we would go for a swim after sunning on the deck.
I am so sorry for the grief his nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends are feeling right now.

As the majority of the family and friends of Mr. Braitraitwaites know me, I was his housekeeper for more than 20 years and the last few years while he was in "Encleve Nursing home" I was his caregiver. With the passing of the years, I learned to love him as part of my family. I have been very lucky to have him in my life. I send my sincere condolences to everyone and I will forever have him in my memory. I will miss him for the rest of my life

Howie was a good friend at UVM. Over the years, our families have enjoyed many happy times, both in Vermont and in Larchmont. The college reunions, visits at Lake St Catherine the Christmas parties in Larchmont and sailing on The Princess MaryJane were special events for all of us! There’ll never be another one like you! Thank you for always making it work.
Your spirit and self giving brought joy and happiness to all of us! Peace be with you Howie

My deep condolences to Howie's family. I got to know Howie both at St. John's Episcopal Church and The Rotary Club. It was when he mentioned that he had been on the faculty of Lakeland HS when the strike, led by my friend Tom Kavennedus that our conversations deepened. He was one of the few acquaintances that could talk with me about Tom's book - one half of which is written from the Superintendent's viewpoint and the other from the Teachers Union viewpoint. Howie was indeed a modest man of many accomplishments-- sailing, dancing, guidance and professional expertise. He treated others with respect and trust. He has been and will continue to be missed.

I've known Howie since I was 9 years old, and can say with a sad heart, we are all going to miss him. He was like the eveready battery, and much like my father, no matter where you were going, he wanted to go. He always loved company, and had nothing but positive things to say. Howie, thank you for being our friend, we all are so much better because of your friendship.

Howard was a "mensch," a lovely man, a gentle leader who enjoyed being with people. We all cherish the times we spent with him and Mary. Whenever we recall our sailing adventures, we will think of them. Jack and Judith Adler44gC2f

Howie will be remembered as an avid sailor, leader of disparate folks, mentor to many, lover of life who gathered a loyal following of friends sharing celebrations till the very end. Watch over us, Howie.
