Obituary of Peter Thomas Zidlicky

Zidlicky. Peter Thomas, 54, on October 7, 2019 in North Merrick, New York. Loving father of Tyler and Hampton. Loving son of Sophie and the late deceased Peter Zidlicky. Beloved brother of Paul and uncle of Sophie, Alexander, Sarah, Lucas and Mary Kathryn.  Cherished friend and co-parent with Jennifer Ogden.  He is also survived by cousins and aunts in the Czech Republic.

Peter was born in Czechoslovakia and came to the U.S. as a young child with his younger brother and devoted parents, who made a loving home for the family on Long Island.  He went on to become a star athlete and student at Calhoun High School, in North Merrick, NY, followed by Brown University, as a Gilbane Scholar. At Brown, he majored in engineering, played for both the Football and Lacrosse teams, formed life-long bonds with his teammates and met his future wife, Jen.  He was also a proud and active member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. After college, Peter went into consulting and finance, graduating with distinction from Columbia Business School, and working with both large and boutique investment companies, including Solomon Brothers , Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette, and Atlantic Pacific Capital, before forming his own company, Sound Shore Advisors, in 2004.

But it was Peter’s two daughters Tyler,19, and Hampton, 15, who were the focus of his life.  He was never happier than when he was watching or coaching his daughters’ lacrosse games and providing them with guidance and encouragement. Because of them and his passion for the game, he became involved in coaching local girl’s and boy’s teams, eventually founding Black Paw Lacrosse. He created his own unique stick stringing style that is carried by top women’s lacrosse teams across the country, including the Irish National Lacrosse team. Peter truly left an indelible mark on the next generation of lacrosse players and the many young players whose lives he touched.

While Peter and Jen separated in 2008, they remained the closest of friends, dedicated co-parents, and family.  Pete enjoyed deep friendships in Larchmont and with his close gang of friends that grew out of his professional career, as well as a special, cherished friendship with Mary.  He looked forward to spending family vacations in Virginia and on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with his brother’s family, and especially the 5 nieces and nephews whom he adored. In the years since his father passed, Peter doted on his mother, whom he loved dearly.

Perhaps Peter's greatest legacy will be his big heartedness, and his love of life and laughter.   His generosity of spirit brightened every room and warmed the hearts of everyone lucky enough to know him.  Taken much too soon, he will be missed by many.
