Caryn,
I will miss our many talks about life in the ED and the discussions of our mutual joys of being in the natural world amongst God’s creations. I always loved sharing stories with you and breaking the silence of the basement office cubicles at Elmhurst. I always thought of you as a caring physician, a wonderful listener, and a great friend. I know that you’re probably enjoying some sunny d right now and helping those little sea turtles to get where they’re going. May you enjoy the peace and tranquility of life everlasting :-)

I will never forget Caryn's smile, warmth and laughter. Her presence alone made every shift an easier and more pleasant one. She will always be remembered with love by all of us who were fortunate enough to be part of her work family.

Caryn was a member of our Buble study group. She shared her Catholic faith with sincerity and openess. Her dedication to medicine was a mirror of her love for God and service to others. She will be greatly missed for she was a true valiant woman.

Caryn was "Dr. Colombo" to me first bc she trained me. But over the years, she's just...a face that always makes me feel at home. And good. How do I put into words the connection and the adoration and love that I felt whenever in her presence? If you're reading this page, you know.

Caryn was my client for many years trusting me with her hair. We shared some wonderful conversations & laughs together. She was always up beat & caring. Her greatest gift to me was her smile & is when she introduced her love, my client Carol Morgan.

Caryn was part of our family, through Helen's sister Carol.
From when we first met her in 1997, we knew she was a class act: Quietly academic, yet humane; Dignified, but not above a bit of fun (I have a fond memory of us hugging and giggling in Amsterdam); Generous with gifts and also with time for listening to people; Accomplished at the most serious of work – that of saving lives - and yet most remembered for that smile that lit up her face.
She had a particular fondness for our son and daughter and saw them develop into adults. She was really good with children, also with animals and, I imagine, must have been a reassuring presence in hospital, both for those facing the possibility of death and for those she worked with.
Helen and I could see what she meant to Carol and the two of them ("C&C") became very close to us, despite our being several thousand miles apart.
We all loved Caryn and will miss her greatly.

The sun shines down upon us
and gives us warmth and light.
Then when the day has ended,
it disappears from sight.
Though we're left in darkness,
we know the sun has not died,
for it is shining brightly
on the world's other side.
So it is when one we love
comes to their end of days.
They just go to the other side
to shine their loving rays.
That's why heaven is a place
that glows beyond compare.
The lights of those who've left us
are all brightly shining there.
Lots of Love
Nanda & Maddox

The Goldschmid family got to know Caryn almost two decades ago through her friendship with and eventual marriage to Carol Morgan, our longtime beloved family employee and friend. Carol and Caryn were devoted to each other and provided a model for our three sons on how to create a lasting, loving relationship. Caryn was a beautiful, soft-spoken, incredibly competent and accomplished person. May Carol find comfort in the knowledge that Caryn left the world a better place through her good deeds, decency, warmth, intelligence and empathy. The Goldschmids will be forever grateful for the honor of having known Caryn.
Much love to Carol from Mary, Charlie and Missy, Paul and Robyn, Joe, Cate, Emma, Lizzy, Maya and Zach.
