Obituary of George F. Holub

George F. Holub died peacefully on January 8, 2017. He was a longtime resident of Larchmont and for the last 20 yrs. Hobe Sound, Fla. He was born August 7, 1933 in NYC to George Holub and Louise Hanus Holub. George grew up in The Bronx attending Evander Childs High School before he went on to NYU where he earned his BS, MA and was working on his PhD. He met his beloved wife Ruth Nee: Olson while teaching Biology at NYU. The couple moved to Larchmont in 1961. George taught Physical Education at the Elementary, Middle & High School levels for the Mamaroneck, New York School District for 30 years. He finished his career as Director, Supervisor of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. He also Coached Football, Basketball and Ultimately Track and Field, In addition to starting The Women's Track Program in the Mid 70's and created the Mamaroneck Relays. George's involvement in other local programs included being a member of Executive Boards of various professional & coaching associations including The New York State Special Olympics. He was a Deacon at The Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church, Head Counselor for 14 yrs. at Camp Lenox in the Berkshires Where he exposed his children to the love of the Great Outdoors. Past President of New York State High School Football Officials Association, Track Coach of the Year in 1983 from the National HS Athletic Association, Past President of Elkan Park Larchmont NY, Executive Committee of Big Pond Association E. Otis MA He moved to Florida in 1991 where he was one of the founders & president of the Lost Lake Men's 9 hole Golf Assoc. also a founding member of the Lost Lake Bocce Rollers George was an avid golfer with a 'Hole in One "on December 6, 2010. George was predeceased by his wife Ruth and longtime companion Estelle Eskow. He is survived by his Children Scott (Cheryl) Holub, Karen (Stephen) Robb, Grandchildren Christopher, Stephanie, Hana, Gunnar and Cameron. Sisters Carol Fausel, Alice (Peter) Fraedrich and companion Bettina Lussier. Also survived by his nieces, their families and in-laws who loved him dearly. In addition to his family George was respected by many students, athletes, campers and everyone who was influenced by his words of wisdom, guidance and encouragement and his message to Always Strive for the Best you can be! His family will receive friends on Friday January 27th 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the John J. Fox Funeral Home 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538. A memorial service will be held on January 28th 11am Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church in Larchmont.
