Obituary of E. Roger Hotte
Hotte, E. Roger, of Larchmont and Manhattan, died on October 8, following complications from a stroke.
Edward Roger Hotte was born in Buffalo, NY on May 9, 1925, to Edward W. and Anotinette Zink Hotte. He graduated from the University of Michigan, and went on to earn a Master's Degree from Columbia University. On May 29, 1949, he was married in Bronxville, NY, to Mary Elizabeth Peets, his wife of 57 years, who predeceased him.
While he pursued his career in banking and computer systems, Roger's passion was real estate. He and Mary bought and sold numerous homes in the Larchmont area, melding her creativity and his passion for home improvement. Together they found their second home in New York City, which became a magnet for family and friends, and home base for their love for the cultural arts in the City. Be it the Metropolitan Opera or Museum, he embraced every opportunity the city offered and loved sharing it with others. Their mutual love of travel took them around the world, with many trips to Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond.
Locally, Roger and Mary shared many activities and interests, from the Larchmont Badminton Club to the Larchmont Yacht Club where for the last few years he loved his daily swims. Together they followed and advocated for County and Town efforts to provide affordable housing for Westchester County residents, and his zeal for real estate kept him brainstorming alternative uses for neglected properties.
Professionally, Roger's career took him from TeleRegister Corp., which became the Bunker-Ramo Corp., The National Association of Mutual Savings Banks, Datasaab, a division of Saab-Scania, and later, Ericcson. Following his retirement, Roger joined two close colleagues and co-founded Software Dynamics Inc., in Chatworth, CA, providing delivery systems and support services for financial institutions. After SDI was sold to S1 Corporation, the annual reunions of the "SDI Gang" became a highlight of his later years.
Family and friends were central to Roger's life. His greatest joy was following the pursuits of his children and grandchildren and supporting their endeavors in every way he could, and he never tired of sharing their news. He lived his life with dignity and determination and a broad smile on his face.
Roger Hotte is survived by his three daughters, Elise M. Young of Larchmont, Margaret S. Jednak of Yorktown, and Clare T. Bournigal of Arlington, Virginia, 12 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
