Obituary of Marc Dorian

Marc Dorian, a long time resident of Mamaroneck, NY, passed away on November 6, 2014 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx with his wife at his bedside. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, he later moved to Belgium with his family. As a teenager, he was active in the Belgian Underground during WWII. He graduated from the Academy of Art in Brussels, and then emigrated to the US to study art and graduate from Cooper Union. He founded several advertising agencies such as Smith and Dorian in NYC; Marc Dorian Inc. in New Rochelle; and later, Dorian, Canizares, Ross Inc., also in New Rochelle. A charter member of the Advertising Club of Westchester and past President, he was active in the organization for more than 30 years. An avid sailor, he was a member of Orienta Yacht Club and Sheldrake Yacht Club for many years and his beloved boat was named "Topaz". As an enthusiastic skier, he spent many winters in Vermont. In addition, he was a voracious reader, a charming raconteur, and a speaker of three languages. He enjoyed intimate gatherings with friends and family, as well as deep discussions about history, politics, and the future. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane; his son, Dan Dorian, and daughter-in-law, Sally Dorian; his daughter, Sharon Dorian Maddux; his grandson, Dana Dorian and granddaughter-in-law, Louise Dorian; his grandsons, Devon, Cameron, and Grayson Maddux; and his great-grandchildren, Alex and Lewis Dorian. His step family includes his stepson, Gregory Fennessey and wife, Claire; his stepson, Dean Fennessey and wife, Vanessa; and his step grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Fennessey; and Jessica and Jillian Fennessey.
