Obituary of Nancy Eloise Wenzler
Nancy Eloise Wenzler was born on July 8th 1940 in Schenectady, NY to John Harold and Mary Lou Miller. She spent the first 9 years of her life in Bridgeport, CT and moved with her parents to Louisville, KY when her father was transferred with General Electric. Nancy's younger brother Jay was born shortly after this move. She attended Eastern High School in Louisville and was appointed the football queen of her senior class. Nancy attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, and was a proud member of the Tri Delta Sorority, graduating with a Bachelor's of Arts in 1962. After returning to Louisville, she began her career as a social worker, and soon after went with some good friends from high school on what was supposed to be a summer in Europe. That summer turned into a two year adventure throughout Europe where she worked in various cities including Munich, Copenhagen, and Lucerne. Upon returning to the States, Nancy moved to New York City, worked at the 1964 World's Fair at the GE Pavilion, and her lifelong love affair with NYC began. Following the World's Fair, she was tour guide for NBC Studios. This not only launched her into further life and business learning opportunities, but with her vibrant personality also opened the door to making some of the most amazing friendships that she has held throughout her life. This included being introduced to her future husband, Otto F. Wenzler (better known as Fritz). With fabulous times out in the Hamptons and skiing on the weekends in Vermont, Nancy and Fritz were married in Manhattan on October 17th 1971. The reception at the Pierre Hotel was fabulous (all planned by Nancy within 8 weeks; she wore the wedding dress of her dear friend Carolyn Mauritz). The story continued when they moved to the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington DC for 2 years, followed by Allentown, PA. Nancy gave birth to their first child, Heidi, in May of 1975. Two years later, they moved to Oldwick, NJ, and within a few months Nancy and Fritz welcomed their second child, Fritz Patrick (F.P.), into the world in July of 1977.
Beyond Nancy's attentiveness as a loving mother, she was an avid member of the Junior League of Morristown, NJ, active member of the PTA, extremely involved with Heidi's Girl Scout Troop and all of Heidi and FP's activities, and a huge supporter of F.P. achieving the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout in High School. Throughout the years, Nancy was known for throwing great parties with all of her and Fritz's dear friends from every facet of their lives. In her sunset years, her love of worldwide travel continued with trips with dear friends and family (including visiting her daughter and grandchildren when they lived in Russia and France- can you believe that as recently as 2018 Nancy was skiing in Chamonix?!). Upon moving back to NYC in 2003 Nancy worked at the Bryant Park Grill, ran a bingo group for seniors, and was an extremely active member of the non-profit Blue Hill Troupe (Theatre Group). She was enthusiastic about everything in life: music, broadway, the outdoors and her contagious smile smile touched everyone who knew her. She is survived by her two children Heidi and F.P Wenzler, her brother Jay Miller and her 9 incredible grandchildren. Heidi's children Jack (17), Addison (11). F.P.'s children Rose (14), Fritz Jr. (12), Pearl (10), Otto (8), Eve (6), June (3), and Baby Hans (4 months). Nancy will be missed beyond words and has lived a legendary life.
