Obituary of Liam John Brennan

Liam Brennan Obituary

Mr. Liam John Brennan, 69, of Patterson, NY, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2024, with his wife Laurie by his side. He was born on December 21, 1954, in Brooklyn, NY to Eamon and Patricia (McCarthy) Brennan. Liam was a strong, kind, brave, gentle, funny, smart, and loving person who had a passion for birds, animals, nature, music, baseball, history, and science. He was a talented blues/rock harmonica player who enjoyed performing with various bands, including Blue J Jack, Sway, The Station Agents, Guy Lowe and Smoked Glass, Otis and The Hurricanes, and loved to jam with anyone who wanted to elevate their music with some smokin’ hot blues harp licks.

Liam is survived by his wife, Laurie (Pappert) Brennan, his mother Patricia McCarthy-Brennan, sister Maev Brennan, brothers Niall and Teague Brennan, daughters Amy Carlson and Kristin Grosbach, grandsons Alan and Josh Grosbach, stepmother Carol Brennan, stepsister Joanna Maddock (Robert), stepbrother Richard Beatty, cousins Marguerite McCarthy, John McCarthy (Eileen), Brendan Florio (Lyn), Marilynn Stowe (Walter), Patty Florio, Perry Florio (Amy), sisters- and brothers-in-law Karen (Pappert) Leary (Dan Leary), Dr. Amy Pappert (Drew Militano), numerous beloved nieces, nephews, second-cousins, and grands from the Brennan, McCarthy, Pappert, Owen and O’Leary families, and two cats Charlie and Chessie. He was preceded in death by his father, Eamon Brennan, his maternal and paternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

After moving from Brooklyn to Queens, and then to Larchmont in the late 1950s, Liam attended Murray Avenue School and Mamaroneck High School, where he formed many lasting friendships. Trying his hand at several jobs, Liam pursued a career primarily as a driver, working for Corporate Coffee Systems in Westbury, NY. He also had various part-time jobs, with his favorite being at Banahan Brothers Service Station in Rye, NY, where he worked on and off for over 25 years. He was beloved by all of his employers, co-workers, and customers, many of whom became lifelong friends.

An avid birder, volunteer driver, baseball fan, music lover, and nature enthusiast, Liam enjoyed spending time outdoors. Always quick with a smile and a pun, he made everyone laugh, and loved to laugh himself. He gave generously to multiple charities, and always put others before himself.

Visitation services will be held on Saturday, March 30th, at Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont, NY. For those who cannot attend, a memorial service for Liam is being planned for the summer, with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Guiding Eyes For The Blind (guidingeyes.org), or Cornell Lab of Ornithology (give.birds.cornell.edu)

His family and friends will gather at The John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont on Saturday March 30, 2024, from 2:00PM until 4:00 PM and again from 7:00pm until 9:00pm to celebrate his life.
