Manuel Outes Ruso

1938 – 2022

Born in the beautiful medieval town of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain, Manuel was one of seven children. He studied medicine at the University of Santiago, then left Spain to do his residency and become board certified in New York, at Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan and City Hospital of Elmhurst in Queens. He practiced Internal Medicine with a specialty in gastroenterology until his retirement.

He was an avid traveler, adventuring with friends in his youth, then with his family, siblings, and siblings in law. He loved and appreciated art and objects of fine craftsmanship. He loved film and amassed a huge collection of movies. He also had a passion for the opera and had a large number of recordings and also had season tickets to the Metropolitan Opera every year. The magical experience of attending the Met Opera was a gift he enjoyed sharing with his wife, his children, and his friends. And if you were very lucky – and on long car rides you often would be – he might regale you by singing some opera.

Whenever he wasn’t traveling or attending operas, he loved spending peaceful times at home with the animals in his life. He loved cats, having grown up with a rotating cast of feline characters, and could often be seen at home watching a movie with a cat perched on his shoulder, pulling at his collar.

He is remembered for being a wonderful provider for his family, his odd and dry sense of humor, and for being a man with a keen and strong mind, who enjoyed his life. He is survived and missed by his wife Nuala, his daughters Galicia and Elizabeth, his son-in-law Edvanni, and many siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends

 Visiting will be Tuesday January 3, 2023 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for him on Wednesday January 4, 2023,10:00 AM at Sts. John & Paul Church 280 Weaver Street Larchmont, NY 10538.  Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery 215 North Street in Rye, NY
