Obituary of Patricia Barberio
Patricia Barberio, long-time resident of New Rochelle, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at The Osborn in Rye, NY. She was born on June 4, 1929 to the late Daniel and Margaret (Duffy) Monahan in Brooklyn, NY.
Pat attended primary school in Woodhaven, NY and graduated from Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica, Queens, NY.
Pat and her husband, John, shared 45 years together before his passing in 1994. She and John worked side by side volunteering to organize many church events, cooking huge meals for extended family gatherings and she supported administrative tasks at John’s fuel oil equipment company in Garden City, LI. She worked as a bookkeeper at Rawlplug in New Rochelle until her retirement.
Pat is survived by her children, Gail (and son-in-law Joseph Cerce), of Mahopac, NY and Tricia (and son-in-law Barry Litcofsky) of Irvington, NY, along with her grandchildren, Kevin Litcofsky (and wife Kinji Sathi) of Newtonville, MA, and Kaitlyn Poepsel (and husband Tim Poepsel) of St. Louis, MO. She was proud to be called “GG Pat” by her four great-grandchildren: twins Clark and Oliver Litthi, and twins Leo and Harriet Poepsel.
Pat was preceded in death by her sister Grace Ford, and brothers Jack Monahan and Daniel Monahan.
Everyone who knew Pat, (“Mrs. B.”), felt her big heart and giving nature. She and John first moved to their beautiful home in Larchmont Woods in 1956 and their home soon became the heart of the neighborhood. Pat’s quiet smile, notable meals, and fresh baked treats welcomed family, friends and newcomers to countless gatherings.
Pat’s caring nature also brought her to be a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer at New Rochelle Hospital in the gift shop, Treasurer of The Larchmont Women’s Club, and a Eucharistic Minister at Church of Saints John and Paul in Larchmont, NY. She was an avid bridge player and a founding member of two long-standing bridge clubs building lifelong friendships.
In retirement, Pat enjoyed traveling to Europe, twice on the QE2, and many parts of the U.S. with close friends. She enjoyed capturing and treasuring those memories in photos.
