Obituary of Sabina Gatheral O'Hara
Sabina (Robbie) Gatheral O’Hara, a longtime resident of Larchmont, NY and Quechee, VT died peacefully on June 17, 2022. Born on August 12, 1937 to Sabina Mary Robinson and William Murdoch Gatheral. Beloved wife for 51 years of the late F. Peter O’Hara. Devoted mother of Katie Edwards (Jon), Mary Moore (Brian), Jennie McFarland (Tom), Maggie Peterson (John), Peter O’Hara (Amy). Loving grandmother of William, Charlotte, Patrick, Tommy, Maxwell, Peter, Henry, Timmy, George, Margaret, Libby and Robert. Sister of Margaret McGarrahan of Berkeley, CA.
Robbie grew up in New York City where she attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart at 91st Street. She went to Wellesley College, graduating in 1958. After college, she returned to New York City where she worked as a children’s book editor at Charles Scribner’s Sons. She and Peter married in 1964 and, after living in NYC and Norwich, settled in Larchmont where she focused on raising their family. She and Peter enjoyed living in Quechee, VT for many years after his retirement. Robbie volunteered throughout her life at many organizations including Junior League of Westchester on the Sound where she spearheaded an effort to provide hearing and sight tests for all newborn babies in New York State, Mamaroneck High School's College Information Center (CIC), AG Bell Association, and the Quechee Library. She enjoyed playing golf & tennis, skiing, being at the New Jersey Shore, walking, antiquing, cross-stitching, traveling, and entertaining.
Robbie's life was blessed with a loving family, lifelong friendships, and her strong Catholic faith. Her family is grateful to everyone for their love and support.
Visiting will be Friday June 24th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, New York 10538. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for her on Saturday June 25, at 11:00 AM at St. Augustine Church 18 Cherry Ave. Larchmont, NY 10538. Interment is private.
