Obituary of Sheila McGarry

She was the third of five children born and raised by Thomas and Marie O’Shea on Staten Island. She married her husband, James, in 1961 and quickly started a family in Queens. While pregnant with her third child, they moved to a home in Larchmont in 1964 which she filled with a sense of calm and comfort for a family of eight, accommodating chaotic schedules, work/school/social commitments and (occasional) emotional roller-coasters.

She was devoted to her family and friends, quick to roll up her sleeves and help out. She was empathetic, insightful, supportive and had a great sense of humor. Above it all she exuded elegance in her essence and style.

She is survived by her siblings, Suzanne and Maureen (Vella), John, and her six children, Laura McCarthy, Patrick McGarry (Cornelia), Christine Gelnaw (Robert), Karen DiBari (Dominic), Amy Sweeney (Michael) and Steven McGarry (Jayne). She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Christian, Nathan, Elly, George, Hannah, Harry, Timothy, Katherine, Michael, Clare and Gavin. She is predeceased by her husband, James, and sister, Barbara.

Sheila McGarry of Larchmont passed away on June 10, 2022.  Visiting Tuesday 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday 9:45 AM at Sts. John & Paul Church 280 Weaver Street Larchmont, NY. Interment is private.
