Obituary of Claire Greenberg
Claire Kaufman Greenberg, 100, passed away at her home on March 15, 2022. Claire Estelle, which means Bright Star, was born on July 3, 1921, the night of the famous Dempsey-Carpentier boxing match. She was the daughter of Nathan and Eva Kaufman, sister to Ben, Norma and Sam, all of whom preceded her.
A lifelong resident of Westchester County, and the last 70 years in Mamaroneck, she raised a family with her cherished husband Nathaniel, who passed away in 1979. She was an inspiration to her sons Paul (Deborah) and Hal (Terry) and her two grandchildren Ethan and Kat. She was a lifetime learner, avid reader and an active volunteer, making the world a better place to live. She was also a fixture at the Shore Acres pool through her mid-90s. Claire loved singing and was a founding member of the Larchmont Community Chorus. She was very proud of her work in the Mamaroneck Teacher Mom program and The Westchester Senior Volunteer Center. A spirited poet, Claire won an award at the Mamaroneck Public Library.
She was a diehard New York Jets fan attending nearly every home game well into her 80s, including a trip to Miami in 1969 to cheer her favorite team to victory in Super Bowl III.
Claire wished that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mamaroneck Public Library, 136 Prospect Avenue, Mamaroneck, NY 10543. There will be a private family service on Friday, March 18th.
