Obituary of Mary Virginia Buckley

Mary Virginia Buckley, of Larchmont, NY, passed away on February 25th, 2022, at White Plains Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Yonkers in 1943 to Cecelia and Edward O’Donnell, she was a lifelong educator, proud mother and grandmother, and devoted friend.

For over five decades she dedicated her life to teaching children in communities across Westchester County. More than 25 of those years were spent at St. John the Evangelist in White Plains, where she taught 3rd grade, ran the after-school program, and positively impacted countless lives.

Mary was a graduate of Elizabeth Seton High School, Marymount College, and Lehman College, where she earned a master’s degree in education.

For the last 50+ years of her life she was a resident of Larchmont, a community she cherished. She was an active parishioner at St. Augustine’s Parish where she taught religious education for over 30 years, and was a longstanding member of the Larchmont Shore Club.

An avid reader and even more avid socializer, Mary enjoyed a good book, a cold glass of white wine, and the simple pleasure of lively conversation with good friends. She was blessed with many good friends. Her friends were there by her side to celebrate the joyous occasions in Mary’s life, and they were instrumental in helping her navigate the tough times, most especially the loss of her husband of 47 years, Patrick Joseph Buckley, in 2017.

She is survived in life by her three daughters, Kate, Kerry, and Christine, her son Patrick, her sons-in-law Christian Bennett and Brad Flaster, her daughter-in-law Meredith Bogonovich, her treasured grandchildren, Sophie Major, William and Daschle Bennett, Jackson and Riley Flaster, and Lalli Cecilia Buckley, as well as her many nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be on Wednesday, March 2nd between 4-7PM at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 3rd, at 11AM at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Interment is private.
