Obituary of Joseph Gam

Joseph (Jozef) Gam having celebrated his 80 birthday on June 14 passed away on Saturday, September 18 in New York, NY surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph lived an incredible life and left behind a legacy that will carry on his memory having achieved the American Dream. Joseph was born in Tcehevet, Poland and escaping the atrocities of WWII and the Holocaust came to the United States with his parents and brother when he was 8 years old. He was a veteran who served his country overseas in the United States Army.  At the age of 21 he met his forever young love of his life Rita Gam and started a family. He worked very hard 7 days a week to accomplish his goals.  Joseph was an entrepreneur and businessman who built a successful real estate company with his family.

Joseph A.K.A. “Papa Joe” always had a smile on his face and was never shy to say what was on his mind. He was a doting husband, proud father and grandfather, business builder, investor, and avid golfer and kayaker. When Joe set a goal, he tackled it with passion. But, most importantly, he lived a life he was proud of.

He is survived by his beautiful wife Rita, the love of his life, whom he married in 1965.  Joseph is also survived by his children Tami (Kevin) Wassong, Jennifer (Adam)Berman, Adam Gam, and four grandsons Matthew, Spencer, Luke, and Ethan. Joseph was predeceased by parents Jack and Florence Gam and brother Abraham Gam.

Besides the weekly rounds of golf or the hour kayak workout around Long Island Sound, he and Rita were inseparable. Joe’s passion, wisdom, infectious energy, and perma-smile will be missed.

Contributions in Joseph’s memory can be sent to The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or American Cancer Society.
