Obituary of Muriel Cylkowski
Muriel Cylkowski, known as Mitzi to all who knew and loved her, died on July 3, 2021 at the age of 92. Mitzi was a devoted music teacher, who touched many lives through music, and who was so much more than a music teacher, intertwining her life with the families of her pupils, enriching their lives with her intuition, energy, and intelligence. Mitzi was a wonderful and loyal friend, a good listener, and ready to provide advice and guidance. She had close friends from different times in her life, with whom she kept in touch and who will miss her dearly. Mitzi was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always deriving great pleasure from activities in which her family engaged. She is survived by her daughter and son from her marriage to Robert Haas: Janet Conway and Daniel Haas; her two grandchildren, Lisa and Susan Conway, and her great-grandchildren Hollis and Isaac Adams, and Adrian Carosella. Mitzi’s wonderful and dear sister Sarah Hertz predeceased her. All of Mitzi’s family will miss her beautiful and generous soul. Mitzi was married to Thaddeus Cylkowski for ten years, with a married life energized by shared interests in music, art, and literature. She remained close with her stepsons David and Jeffrey Cylkowski, whom she loved very much. Mikhail Bogin has been Mitzi’s loving and devoted partner for the past thirty years. Misha is a special and giving person, always attuned to Mitzi’s needs, always attentive. Mitzi had close relationships with Katya Bogin and her daughter Rousso, and with Daniel Bogin, whom she loved as a son. Born in New York City, Mitzi was the daughter of Max and Fannie Lehman, who immigrated through Ellis Island from Russia and Romania.
