Obituary of Anthony P. Chianese

Tony Chianese, a longtime resident of Larchmont, died on Saturday, April 25, 2021. He was 78 years old.

A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Merigo Carroll Chianese, and his daughters, Elizabeth (and her spouse Bob Gebbia), Meg (and her spouse Ted Durkin) and his son John (and his spouse Cristina), and his grandchildren, Katie and Christopher Gebbia, Mollie, Claire and Cece Durkin, and Nicholas and Mackenzie Chianese.

Born in Bronx, NY, to the late Salvatore and Camille Chianese, Tony is a graduate of Iona Grammar and Iona Prep, College of the Holy Cross for his undergraduate degree, and Pace University for his master’s degree. He also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1966 – 1969.

In 1999, Tony retired from a 30+ year career with International Paper Company. He was a senior executive with human resources where he skillfully and successfully led many major labor negotiations.

Tony loved spending time with his family, especially summers at the Larchmont Yacht Club and at his parents’ vacation home on Candlewood Lake. He was extremely proud of his three children and attended all of their games, school plays, and dance recitals. He was also an avid Yankees and Giants fan.

Tony was a talented cook who wowed dinner guests with his famous Thanksgiving stuffing. He also made fabulous homemade pizza, pasta sauce, and Saturday morning pancakes.

Most of all, Tony was a husband who profoundly loved his wife, Merigo. Their long and tender partnership never lost its spark of affection and romance.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

The Chianese family will receive friends at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont New York on Thursday April 29th from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
