Obituary of Katherine W. Johanson

Katherine W Johanson, 83, a lifelong resident of Larchmont, died peacefully at home on April 22, 2021. She was born in Brooklyn to Philip and Dorothy Wagner.  After living in Brooklyn and Manhattan she moved to Larchmont at age 12, attending St. Augustine’s School, Mamaroneck High School (where she met her husband) and St. Michael’s College. 

She was active in many school activities while her children were in the Mamaroneck School System including PTA president, Chairman of Chatsworth Carnival, President of AFS Ski and Skate Sale.  She was ever present at all the sporting events, plays and recitals of her children and subsequently her grandchildren were involved in. She was the Executive Director of the Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce.  A Melvin Jones award recipient, she was involved with the Larchmont Lions Club for many years.  She was an avid reader and loved to travel.

Mrs. Johanson also served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at St. Augustine's Church where she was a parishioner since she was a child.

She is predeceased by her husband Carl and survived by her devoted family: daughter Kathleen, sons Philip and Gregory, daughters-in-law Lucy and Dawn, and her grandchildren who were the light of her life, Timothy, Zachary, Kelly, Bridget, Colin, Sophie and Ryan, her sister Lynn McCabe (Charles), and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Calvary Hospital.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 25, 2021 at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont from 4:00 PM until 8:00PM.  Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Augustine’s Church, Larchmont, NY.
