The Elser family fondly remembers “Uncle John” as a wonderful kind man. Our dad, John Elser, who was Vivian’s nephew enjoyed returning to New York to visit them and watch their children grow. May he experience eternal rest in God’s kingdom. Our sympathies to the family.

My great-uncle, the late Camil Speciens, treasured his friendship with Mr. Creedon. They talked by phone frequently, even into their 90s. I admired my great-uncle because he had done so well in life, achieving so many of his dreams. So too had Mr. Creedon. I’m very sorry for your family’s loss. Mr. Creedon was a wonderful, lifelong friend of my Uncle Camil. God Bless.

I just seen this tonight, and I can see them: The three Creedon boys, singing, Dannyboy, instead of in Connecticut, now singing up in heaven!!! Xoxoxo May the saddness of such a huge loss, be softened by your many great memories, I know for me, I still feel like I have my Daddy (his brother D.P.C.) cause I can hear him, cause he is always with me, and he was always soild and by that I mean I can feel what he would say or do in any of my life's situations! I had him till he was almost 88, but so long as I can remeber him, he lives on in my heart, may your Dad live just as long too. xoxoxo Maria E. Creedon

I'm very sadden to hear about the passing of Mr Creedon. I sat outside his office for a few years in the MetLife building about 10 years ago. I was very fond of him and it was always a treat when he came into the office.
The memory that stands out in my head the most was when he bought a bottle of champagne for me and some of my co-workers to celebrate the fact that I had passed an actuarial exam!
It was an honor to have met him and my most sincere condolences to the Creedon family.

Prayers and deepest condolences to John's family.
He was a great leader, and led the company to great heights while fostering an atmosphere of performance and customer centricity in a gratifying and congenial work atmosphere.
My wife Lillian and I recall very fondly the renditions of New York, New York at the various company events that John hosted and that honored him at his retirement.

On behalf of the USS Caliente Association we send our condolences to John’s lovely wife, Diane, and his family. We had the privilege of helping them celebrate John’s 95th birthday last year with in Savanna at our last Caliente reunion. John served on the Caliente (AO-53) during WWII as a quartermaster. He was a founder and a generous supporter of the association composed of all who served on the Caliente from 1943-1973. John and Diane attended and and supported all our yearly reunions. John was humble and kind and an example for us all in his service to his country and his community. We, his shipmates, will miss his sparkling personality and will have nothing but wonderful memories of the time he spent with us. Bravo Zulu John, on a life well-lived.

John was a terrific CEO for MetLife. He had the intelligence, skills and personality to do or be whatever he wanted. Luckily for us, he chose to be at MetLife. He loved the Company and he loved his family even more. He had a great career and a great life. He will truly be missed by all of us who admired him and had the good fortune to know him.

John was the last of the great career CEOs of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. While not the first CEO to have started in the mailroom, he was the last. He understood the business -- from the ground up quite literally -- and the need to find ways for the Company to outshine the competition. The Peanuts gang, national television advertising, the Wonders of Life Pavilion at Epcot, the MetLife blimp and many New York City initiatives (like Summer Jobs for Youth) were hallmarks of his years at the helm. He devoted the money and his personal attention to management training -- the only CEO in the recent past to do so. He was a tough businessman and a charismatic leader -- during the giant retirement party in the lobby of the North Building for those who took the first voluntary retirement offer, he brought down the house with his rendition of New York, New York. His leadership made a difference to the business and to all of us who had the privilege of working with him. My sympathies.

So sorry to hear about John’s passing. He was a real gentleman and extremely effective CEO! Also always amazed us how much a devoted father he was! Having lived in New Canaan for a number of years, we would often see John with his family in town or marching in our local parade! His decision to engage Charles Shultz and Disney to create the Wonders of Life Pavilion and use of Charlie Brown characters in our Corporate and business marketing efforts were brilliant, and very much enhanced our reputation in the marketplace. May he Rest In Peace!

I owe my career at MetlLfe to John Creedon. He hired me as a lawyer at MetLife. I had taken his Insurance Law course at NYU. Despite (or maybe because) of the fact that I often approached him after class to take issue with something he said, he took a liking to me. He invited me to interview for a job at MetLife. I did and was hired. I got the feeling that he was always looking out for my interests. I must admit that the first time I got a legal memo back from John with a “C” on it, I thought he was still grading me! Of course, it was his initial, signifying tgat the comments were from him. Among the things John did to help my career, he assigned me to work for Harry Kamen, another brilliant lawyer, who mentored me and later became CEO. When I decided to take a job with our Auto & Home insurance subsidiary in Rhode Island, John called me to his office just to make sure that this was the right career move for me. And it goes on. (Little-known facts (or at least I think they’re facts): He changed the name “Metropolitan Life Insurance Company” to “MetLife.” He hired made the decision to hire the Snoopy team to be the public spokeswomen for MetLife.) John Creedon was a great, wonderful man and executive. May his memory and legacy be a source of comfort and pride for his family.

Having only known John for a handful of years, I came to enjoy his company and good spirit whenever I had the pleasure of being with him. It was clear that he enjoyed his life, maintained a positive outlook and was not one to give up.
My deepest and sincere condolences to Diane and the entire Creedon family for the loss of such a great man.
May god grant him eternal peace.
Take comfort in knowing he is watching out for you every day.
