Obituary of Michele M. Hoffmann
Michele Miralia Hoffmann, 74, died on September 6, 2020 at New York Presbyterian Hospital after a sudden third battle with cancer. Born on January 5, 1946 in New Rochelle, NY, she was a lifetime resident of Larchmont. Michele was the daughter of David and Margaret Miralia and sister to Lauren Miralia.
She was a graduate of Sts John & Paul School in Larchmont, the Ursuline School in New Rochelle, Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis and Katherine Gibbs School in New York. She worked at the Boston office of Hornblower & Weeks-Hemp Hill Noyes, members of the New York Stock Exchange. At the time, her father was a partner in the investment banking house of Kuhn Loeb & Co. Michele subsequently worked in the New York headquarters of Bache & Company, a securities firm that provided stock brokerage and investment banking services.
Michele met her husband Paul Hoffmann Jr. (Bink) on May 29, 1962. They were engaged shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day in 1971. Michele and Paul were married on August 7, 1971 and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this year. Michele was a devoted mother to her four children, Marina, Monica, Paul III (Tripp) and Erich. She was also a revered mother-in-law to Kohl Norville and Kristi Hoffmann; a cherished grandmother to Lena and Heath Norville, and Rowan, Greer, Harper and Shea Hoffmann; and a doting caretaker to the family’s Portuguese Water Dogs Preppy, Lacey, Scooby and Trixie.
She was a devout Catholic and traveled the world on religious pilgrimages. She was a passionate traveler who relished planning trips, making new friends, experiencing different cultures and visiting her favorite spots around the globe. She and Paul made many trips together, spanning over 30 countries. Wherever Michele was, she would find a Catholic church and attend mass, no matter what language might be offered.
As lifetime members of Larchmont Yacht Club, Michele and Paul sailed competitively for about 20 years. They raced Etchells, a racing class of one-design sailing boats. Once their children were older, Michele and Paul enjoyed power boating with their family and friends.
Michele’s joys and devotions were God, family and football. She was an avid fan of the NY Football Giants. Her world travels where planned around the Giants games or involved travel to road games, including all five times the Giants appeared in the Super Bowl. Her car resembled a NY Giants helmet with Lawrence Taylor’s number 56 superimposed on it.
Michele was a truly vibrant woman who loved life and lived it to the fullest. She had such an abundance of love for her family and friends. Not only were friends considered family, but also anyone with whom she interacted, she treated them as family. Michele possessed an incredible warmth and enthusiasm for life with which she enveloped those around her. With her magnetic personality, she inspired others to be braver, and she unapologetically celebrated life without holding back a drop of herself. She graced so many with her love, thoughtfulness, kindness, generosity, hospitality, boundless energy and compassion. She had a gift to make people laugh, even in the midst of a crisis. Michele had a true passion and strong dedication for celebrations of every kind, was always ready for a fun plan and eager to rally her family and friends to get involved. She was the most wonderful friend to many, and she was a true heroine in her own glittery, sparkly, colorful way. Her presence was like no other, and she will be greatly missed by so many. While heaven is blessed with another angel, there is an incomprehensible void on earth that will be filled with beautiful memories of such a loving soul that is Michele.
Her family will receive friends at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont, NY Thursday 3pm to 7pm. The funeral mass and burial are both private.
On behalf of the Hoffmann family, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Weill Cornell Medical College for “oncology research” in memory of Michele Hoffmann.
