Obituary of Richard G. McKay

Richard G. McKay of New Rochelle, NY and Singer Island, Fl passed peacefully on September 3, 2020. Rich was born on September 26, 1945 to Richard O. McKay and Janet McKay (Sewall). He was a graduate of New Rochelle High School and attended the Academy of Aeronautics and Westchester Community College. He had a lengthy career as a switchman for Verizon before retiring. Rich married Mary Jayne Becht in 1969 and they resided in New Rochelle, NY and New Milford, CT before moving to Larchmont, NY in the late 70’s where they raised their four children. Rich was proud to volunteer with the PTA at Chatsworth School and coach his sons in Larchmont Soccer. He enjoyed spending summers in Eastham, MA where he would spend days playing with his kids. He enjoyed swimming and sailing on Great Pond and loved scallops from Arnolds. He was passionate about feeding the hungry and the homeless. He supported and volunteered for Midnight Run. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Augustine’s Church. Later in life he met the love of his life, Ann Lanza, whom he married on April 3, 2004. He loved to travel and cruise with Ann and spend his winters in Singer Island, Florida. A highlight trip for him was to spend April in Paris. Rich loved watching his sports and was a die-hard Yankee fan and Giants fan. He also enjoyed his Walters hot dogs even in his final days. Most of all he loved to be surrounded by family. Rich is predeceased by his parents, first wife and niece Meagan. He is survived by his loving wife Ann Lanza of New Rochelle, his loving children Alison (Frank) Squiccimarro of Trumbull, CT, Drew (Erin) of Stamford, CT, Justin (Chelsea) of Apex, NC, and Trevor of Larchmont, his step-sons Charlie (Gina) Lanza of Harrison, NY and Dominick of Mamaroneck, NY, and his beloved grand-children Natalie, Dante, Alexis, Maxwell, Amelia, Cecily and Harvey. He is also survived by his sister Mary Jane of New York City and niece and god-daughter Shannon Milligan of Raleigh, NC. A wake will be held at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont, NY from 4-7p.m. on Sunday, September 6th and a funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 7th. Rich was charitable in his life and In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the charity of your choice.
