I first met Dr. Ploumis, his wife, and their daughter around 1986 at JFK, where I had gone to see off my girlfriend for her flight to Athens. Dr. Ploumis had a presence that reminded me of a New York law officer—something which he humorously mentioned about himself later. The family who was present made a wonderful impression on us, each striking the right chords in their own way. Dr. Ploumis kindly offered to drive me home, casually mentioning that they lived nearby, which I found to be a truly generous gesture.
A few years later, now married to that girlfriend, I found myself dealing with a legal issue involving a neighbor who happened to be an attorney. On one of our visits to his home, I mentioned the issue to him. He immediately reassured me with calm confidence, dismissing the problem as minor and offering specific advice on how to handle it. I followed his guidance, and, as it turned out, my previously adversarial neighbor became surprisingly cooperative.
I remember Dr. Ploumis sharing stories about his college years and his athletic past; his warmth and the engaging way he recounted them still resonate with me. In short, I want to express how deeply I admired him. I am truly saddened that we lost touch over the years, especially after moving to another state and then to Europe. Dr. Ploumis will always hold a special place in my heart as a kind-hearted and wise individual. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of Dr. Ploumis. He was my orthodontist in the mid-1970s. I was a young boy then and so impressed with the picture of him in his LA Rams uniform. I still have the mold he took of my teeth back then. I extend my deepest condolences to his family. Sincerely John Campbell

To my dear Eric, Celeste, Vanessa & Damian:
It is with an extremely heavy heart that I offer you all my sympathy and most heartfelt condolences on the passing your your dad, my dear friend Dr. Ploumis.
As you all know I worked as his dental assistant/receptionist in the New Rochelle, Lockwood Avenue office for 4 wonderful years before becoming a flight attendant in 1976. Those were spectacular, fun years working with my employer, my friend, Dr. Bill Ploumis. He taught me so much!!
We stayed in touch over the years and I will miss him tremendously. Please be strong my dears and please never forget me because your dad treated me like his own family. I loved him so much!

Dear Delilah,
It was so kind of you to write about my father. We miss him dearly and I am happy that you remember him so fondly. I remember you when I was a boy back in New Rochelle and remember my dad always speaking of you like you were a daughter to him. Even with such a sad event, it is nice to reconnect. I wish you well and send my best to you from Weimar, Germany. Damon

Dear Ploumis Family,
My sincere condolences to the entire Ploumis family. I am so sorry to hear the news of Dr. Ploumis's passing. Such a brilliant, inventive and compassionate person. Dr. Ploumis tried so hard to help my mother. He really stuck his neck out, never gave up and worked with my brother on inventive methods of wound care. He stepped in to help when all other doctors walked away. My family is eternally grateful for all that he has done for us, especially his encouraging hope and witty banter. When he would call, there was always a good laugh shared. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
With deepest sympathy,
Wendy Yocca

I remember very well your dad, who my dad always considered one of his closest friends. I live in Germany these days but not a day goes by where I do not miss him. My best to you and your family.
