My earliest memories of Jeff date back to 3rd grade baseball at Greenacres elementary school in Scarsdale. Jeff was always kind and enthusiastic. We progressed through the Scarsdale school system together graduating in1965. We continued to play baseball together for Greenacres and in no small part thanks to Jeff’s skill and teamwork we won the league championship our last year of eligibility after an inauspicious beginning as the league sweat hogs.
On graduation we were off to college - Jeff at Columbia during the turbulent late 1960’s including the riots during which police assaulted peaceful students with batons and clubs on the library steps transforming many center conservatives into resisters against the police brutality, and a war that was clearly a tragic mistake.
After College graduation Jeff and I were both off to medical school Both Jeff and I attended all our SHS reunions and enjoyed catching up every decade.
I learned of Jeff’s passing yesterday while on the phone with a fellow Scarsdale classmate friend. I was shocked. Jeff was too young and vital. But Covid has no conscience, it feeds, maims and kills where it can without regard to the integrity or humanity of its victims. That Jeff returned to practice during the height of the pandemic is a testament to his compassion for others and his unique medical skills. He practiced to help others without regard for his own safety.
Jeff, I am so sad you are gone. I will always miss you, and the times we shared. My heart goes out to your wife and children.
Richard Kavey, M.D.

Jeff was my colleague at work and over the years we developed an over 30 year special friendship. He was always a thoughtful man and loved to teach others on a whole variety of subjects. His death is a profound loss for all who knew and loved him. I am so grateful to have known him and loved him. My sympathies to his wonderful wife, Monique and his very special sons Max and Sam.

Dear friend and colleague, your departure is the saddest thing of this terrible year. I knew you over 40 years ago as a medical student at the Free University of Brussels where your parents sent you. You knew how to adapt to life in Europe and then return with Monique to serve in your country. You were a good man, an excellent clinician and a faithful Friend. Today we cry for you but we keep a wonderful memory of you. May Monique and your sons Max and Sam continue on the path you showed us. On behalf of the former medical students of the Free University of Brussels, I send you this last farewell. Rest in peace Dear friend. Vincent Lamy, MD.

As a Belgian friend of the family, I had the chance to stay several times at their house. Jeff was the kindest man of the World.

We are saddened to hear of the loss of such a talented, kind Edgewood resident and to read this loving tribute. I remember meeting Jeffrey many years ago when Sam and Max were young and our youngest daughter Julia played with them in the neighborhood play group. Our hearts go out to the Escher family.
