Obituary of Mary R. McCormack
Mary Roberts McCormack, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2020. Mary was born on February 9, 1940 in Brooklyn, one of twin girls born to Irish parents. She went on to earn a full scholarship at Bishop McDonald High School and at Marymount Manhattan College, where she was Student Council President her senior year. She also won a scholarship for summer study at Oxford University and then went on to earn her Masters in English at Brooklyn College. After college, Mary taught English at Brooklyn Technical High-School.
In May 1964, Mary married Martin McCormack and they moved to Larchmont in 1972. During her life in Larchmont, Mary raised her two children and was an active parishioner of Saints John and Paul Church, where she was a lector member of the choir. She was also an accomplished real estate agent in Larchmont and later worked in the Press Office of the National Gallery of Art during she and Martin’s time in Washington, D.C in the 1990s.
Mary had a lifelong love of art, literature, and music and she sang and played the piano masterfully. She was also known for her intellect, grace, and kind spirit. She is survived by her two children, Fiona and Kieran, their spouses, Dermot and Kirsten, grandson Rory, and many nieces and nephews.
. A visitation will be held to honor Mary's and Martin's lives on Thursday February 20th, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday February 21st at 11:00 AM at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Interment will be private.
