Obituary of Lester R. Wauchope

On Friday, January 10, 2020, Lester R. Wauchope, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. Lester was born on June 3, 1930. He attended school in the British West Indies, then came to the United States at the age of 9. He attended Harrison Public schools, then transferred to Rye Neck Public School, from which he graduated. He then continued his training at AVO Institute, taking classes in electronics and television technology. He entered the United States military, during the Korean War in 1950, stationed in Austria and Germany. Lester spoke five languages and was honorably discharged in 1955. He stayed on in the reserves for six more years before returning to the US and marrying Barbara L. Ross. Lester enjoyed golf and you could find him on the golf course every weekend. He played in several golf classics in the state of New York. He was an amateur boxer and competed in amateur events. Lester liked sketching and graphic arts. He also loved to fish for the "Big Blues". Words cannot truly describe the man Lester was; Those who knew him would say he was humble, brave, courageous, loyal, generous, respectful, considerate, independent, honest, hardworking, polite, loving, ambitious and proud. Has was preceded by his mother, Ruth Viola Wauchope and he is survived by his loving wife, Barbara L. Wauchope; his children, Barbara Wauchope-Coleman, Yvonne Wauchope, Lisa Wauchope-Greenland, Christopher Wauchope, Pamela Wauchope-Delarose; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grand children; as well as great aunts and uncles in the British Indies and nieces, nephews and cousins. The Wauchope Family would like to send out thanks to the Peter J. Veteran Hospital, Dr. Shank and all the many other doctors and staff that served Lester over the years; also, the John J. Fox Funeral Home and Pastor Karen. Visiting will be Saturday January 18th 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538. Funeral Service Saturday January 18th 12:00 PM at Mamaroneck United Methodist Church 546 E Boston Post Rd, Mamaroneck, NY 10543, Interment will follow at the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY
