Obituary of Debra L. Schleien
Debra Schleien passed on August 27, 2019 after a 1 ½ year struggle with cancer. Debbie was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend. She touched everyone with her kindness, love, warmth, optimism and wonderful laugh.
Debbie graduated from Queens College in 1975 and over the course of many years took graduate courses in many of the healing arts (physical therapy, art therapy, and social work). Given her lifelong pursuit of a holistic lifestyle, heavily influenced by her son Eric, it culminated in her pursuit of a yoga instructor certification at the Kripalu Institute in Lenox MA.
Her giving nature and caring attitude led her eventually to a leadership role within the Social Action Committee at Larchmont Temple where she coordinated, over a decade, a quarterly benefit at Hope Community Services in New Rochelle where she was honored for her service in 2017.
Debbie was a lifelong entrepreneur running small businesses in Baltimore and Miami, ultimately leading to her partnership with her son Zach, where they together founded LIFT Protein Muffins.
She travelled the world widely with her husband Charlie and continued to visit the world’s great art museums, an interest (as an artist) since childhood. The world is less without her caring, sensitive, and spiritual disposition. She is survived by her husband Dr. Charles Schleien, Chairman and Senior Vice President of Pediatrics at Northwell Health, Eric, a financial advisor of Granite State Capital Management and former New Hampshire State Representative, and Zachary, technologist at Johnson & Johnson and owner of 18percent a mental health online community, as well as her sister Phyllis Goldman of NYC.
A funeral service will be held Friday August 30th at 11:00 AM at Larchmont Temple 75 Larchmont Ave. Larchmont, NY. Interment will follow at Mt. Eden Cemetery 20 Commerce Street Hawthorne, New York 10532.
