I met Dr Robbins at Valley Hospital in 1974 where I delivered by first child. I liked him immediately and had him as my pediatrician for all of my 4 children I believe my daughter was one of his last patients on the day he retired in 2000. I left his office that day in tears. I only recently learned that he had passed. He was a wonderful doctor and man. So happy that he had a long life

Dear Phyllis,...an amusing anecdote:
It was about 45 years ago at Bucks Rock Camp, Milford (?not sure), Conn.
It was festival day, the end of the camp season when the campers display their art work, and then left for home.
One or two of your children were also in the sculpture class as our son, Mark.
The year before I had rented a U-Haul at Mark's request in order to bring home his work, and when we arrived, he had nothing (a sad story at the time).
Ergo, the following year I did not rent a U-Haul, so of course he had a lot of large pieces to take home.
I turned to Mel and asked if he had room. He was gallant tho wondering how he was going to fit in the pieces your children had. As Mel and Al struggled to do this, you and I sat on the curb watching. I recall you asked, "How can you be so calm". Oh, my dear, I wasn't! It was churning. I've told the story often.
And so, we have reached our 90's. I hope Mel's passing was painless and as easy as possible for you and your family. Please accept my condolences.
Sincerely, Fran Davis

Doc "Rob" as he was affectionately known as by our family, was my husband's Pediatrician as well as our 3 kids. Kind, gentle, wise, patient and wearing his ever present bow tie, he was a God send to our family. You could always talk to him directly on the phone from 8 to 8:30 AM, except on Sundays and Wednesdays! It was a sad day in our lives when he retired. He was an exception Doctor and person and he holds a dear place in the hearts of our family. God Bless him.

Dr. Robbins was the greatest man and Doctor this country ever new. He was
my sons Pediatrican and my son who is now 47 years old remembers as I do
how kind, calming and attentive he was. My son still went to him in his teen
years cause he could not find a Doctor close to Dr. Robbins personality. My deepest condolences to his family because the world lost a wonderful Doctor,
and Person. He will always be in our hearts.

The Rudolph and Connelly family are so sad to hear of the passing of our cousin, Mel. He was not only mine and my siblings' pediatrician, he took care of my 4 children and my sister's 3 daughters. He was the kindest and warmest man.
As an aside, my grandmother, Sarah, was his mother, Jenny's sister.
Deepest condolences.

Mel was both an inspiration and personal mentor to me in 1987 until he retired when I moved my practice to Valley Hospital. He was loved and respected by everyone, staff, parents, and of course his patients.
He will be missed, but always remembered as a legendary pediatrician.
