Laurie and her mom, Zada, lived across the street from my childhood home on Myrtle Blvd. Laurie had a huge impact on me and my family, as well as everyone in our neighborhood. When she was in her early 20s, Laurie's enthusiasm and charisma rallied over 20 neighborhood kids, to put on 2 summer plays: 'Peter Pan" and "Oliver". Laurie rehearsed, directed, facilitated us making sets, props and costumes. We called ourselves "The Myrtle Players". It was magical, Laurie was magical, and provided me and my siblings with some of our richest childhood memories. Thank you Laurie, for believing in me, for being someone I adored and looked up to. Thank you for our early lessons in teamwork, for tapping our creativity and instilling a sense of pride and belonging in our community. You were a true gem. My condolences to all of Laurie's family, sending comfort and compassion in your loss.
