Obituary of Mary Constas

Mary Constas, formerly of Fort Myers, Florida, Roslyn Harbor, NY and Garden City, NY,  passed away Thursday,  February 7, 2019 at the age of 93.  She was born in New York City, a first generation Greek American and eldest child of Costa Lutas and Malama (nee Dramasiotis) Lutas.   She grew up in Astoria, New York with her two younger sisters, Sylvia and Joanne (“Jenny”) and first cousin Mary (“Bea”) in a two family home a half block from the Astoria Park.  She was an avid swimmer and talented singer and dancer.  As she grew older her passion became Contract Bridge and she spent many years travelling the country attending bridge tournaments earning the distinction of being a masters level player. 

Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Peter Constas, who passed away in 2008.  Surviving Mary are her daughters Dorothea and Diane, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, her sister Sylvia Alphas and her sister-in-law, Helen Constas, ten nieces and nephews, and eight great-nieces and nephews. 

A special thank you to the staff of the Hebrew Home in Riverdale, NY and the hospice team of Calvary Hospital for their excellent care and compassion provided to Mary over the last few years and final weeks of her life.
