The Disterhoft Family posted a condolence

Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of this great man. Although our time knowing him was fairly short he embraced us all and took our daughter Ally under his wing befriending and mentoring her while recruiting her to Barclays in the big city. Whether it was the common bond of being Iowans, bankers and/or athletes Greg was one of Ally’s biggest fans having met her through the internship interview process. He organized a group and traveled to Rutgers to watch her play basketball for the Hawkeyes her senior year meeting our extended family, her coaches and teammates after the game. He knew every career stat and academic achievement and followed her final year at the University of Iowa closely. After Ally signed with Barclays, and as parents concerned with their daughter moving 1,000 miles away from home, Greg freely gave out multiple contact numbers to reach him telling us “call any time for any reason”. A supportive fixture he consistently checked in with her and would always extend an invite to our family for dinner when we were visiting. Many I am sure can tell a similar story to ours as Greg mentored and befriended countless people. He immersed himself into relationships never knowing a stranger and proudly shared stories about his family and his abundant life journey. Greg was truly one of a kind and was definitely one of the good guys. Our deepest sympathies to his parents, wife, children, siblings and to all who knew and loved him. This world will be a much lonelier place without Greg. May he Rest In Peace in God’s heavenly arms. Missy, Jeff, Nate & Ally Disterhoft

Dear Hall family, I am so sorry for your loss. How comforting it is to know that Jehovah, the God of all comfort, will eliminate all grief and provide permanent consolation when “all those in the memorial tombs will hear [Christ’s] voice and come out”! (John 5:28, 29) God promises that “he will do away with death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.” (Isa. 25:8, .) Then, instead of having to “weep with those who weep,” all earth’s inhabitants will “rejoice with those who rejoice.”—Rom. 12:15. I hope that these promises bring you comfort.

A memory of Greg that has always stuck with me is a week long trip to the YMCA camp in Estes Park, Co. for an FCA retreat in the summer of 1971, I will continue to think of that experience and Greg often. My prayers for his family.

Greg was "the man". I will forever cherish our frequent talks about Yale Football, politics, 'old war stories' like the time he met Ronald Reagan at Mory's after scoring a touchdown, or any topic of the day. My deepest sympathies to you, Dacey, and the entire family. Greg was simply the best. Ron Vaccaro

I am heartbroken to learn of Greg's passing, as he was a trusted colleague and dear friend for many years. I had the pleasure of having lunch with Greg just before Thanksgiving, not knowing he was ill, and we shared stories and laughed about good old times. I didn't know I was saying goodbye to an extraordinary man. My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family.

Shocked and greatly saddened by the news of Greg's death. He was a year ahead of my wife Mimi and I at Yale, and he was one of the nicest guys / best teammates that I ever had the pleasure to know. Greg was a class act all the way - a real gentleman, a scholar, and a great human being. Our deepest condolences to his family for their profound loss.

I too was saddened to hear of Greg’s passing. We were classmates in High School and he was someone I always looked up to and respected, whether it was in the classroom, on the football field or just bumming around. Greg was a humble person with talent and knowledge beyond his years. He was someone we all aspired to be. Our prayers are with his family and friends right now. RIP my ol’ friend.

My deepest sympathy to Greg's family, parents, brother and sister. Greg was an outstanding man and as one of his former teachers in Sioux City East High (IA) can attest that he was an outstanding student and just a class act and gentleman. I was shocked and saddened by the news of his passing at such a young age. May God comfort the family with his love and give you all strength for the days ahead and joy in the wonderful memories you have of him.
