Obituary of Jacqueline Ann Hopper

Jacqueline Ann Hopper, 57, of Peham, New York, died on October 17, 2018. Jackie was cherished by her husband, Dr. Patrick Elliott Hopper; her son, Kolby Oliver Hopper; step-sons Sean Hopper (and his wife Phoebe) and Brennan Hopper; her mother Ellen Richter Nenner; sister Lisa Nenner Eliseo and brother-in-law Lloyd Eliseo; and in-laws Eileen and Fred Hoover and Larry Hopper and Annette Pfaust. Her beloved father, the late Dr. Raphael Philip Nenner, died in 2005. A veterinarian, Jackie was known professionally as Dr. Jacqueline Nenner. Born February 28, 1961 in New York, NY, Jackie graduated from Trinity College in 1983. She later decided to become a veterinarian, inspired by her father's love of medicine and her mother's passion for rescuing stray animals. She graduated from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 1992. She worked for more than a decade at the East Side Animal Hospital in Manhattan. In 2002, Jackie married veterinary specialist Dr. Patrick Hopper. Two years later, they shared the joy of the birth of their son, Kolby, and the heartache of Jackie's diagnosis of breast cancer. Jackie refused to let breast cancer define her. She threw herself into motherhood, scaling back her practice and eventually becoming known throughout Pelham as "the wonderful vet who makes house calls." She shared her love of drawing with her son and step-sons and found another outlet for her creativity in the renovation of the Hopper's home. Jackie had one of her proudest moments in November 2017 when Kolby became a bar mitzvah. Extraordinarily close to her mother and sister, Jackie loved traveling with her family to Truro, Cape Cod, and spending romantic birthday weekends in St. Bart's with Patrick. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 19 at 11 a.m. at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trustees of Tufts, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, Foster Small Animal Hospital, 200 Westboro Road, North Grafton, MA 01536
