Ruth Weiss
Ruth Weiss of Larchmont, NY passed away on June 8, 2018. Ruth was born on February 14, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Reverend Everett C. Parker and Geneva (Jones) Parker. She grew up in White Plains, NY and graduated from White Plains High School in 1961. She received a bachelor's degree in 1966 and a master's degree in education in 1969 from Adelphi University. Ruth married Peter Weiss, her husband of 51 years, in 1967.
A lifelong educator, Ruth taught elementary education at Mamaroneck Avenue School in Mamaroneck, NY from 1966 to 1975 and from 1980 to 2010. She was a longtime member of the Larchmont Avenue Church where she served as a deacon and as Chairman of the Board of the Larchmont Avenue Church nursery school. She was also a member of the Larchmont chapter pf P.E.O., a philanthropic organization that promotes the advancement of women, providing scholarships, grants, awards and loans to college-bound women.
In her free time, Ruth was a passionate reader and enjoyed taking long, brisk walks, hiking, traveling, yoga, and, recently, playing mah jong.
She is survived by her loving husband and children Amanda (William Ritz) Weiss of New Rochelle, NY and Everett (Courtney) Weiss of Pittsford, NY, her grandchildren Parker, Logan, and Grayson Weiss and Alexander Ritz, her sister, Eunice Kolczun of Tulsa, Oklahoma, her brother, the Reverend Truman (Terri Jones) Parker of Mountain Home, Idaho, her sister-in-law Elizabeth (Peter) Vollstadt of DeLand, FL, five nephews, two nieces, five grand nephews, and two grand nieces.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Ruth Weiss will be conducted on Saturday, July 14 at 1:00 PM at the Larchmont Avenue Church, 60 Forest Park Avenue, Larchmont, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to P.E.O.
