Obituary of Sidney Schwager

SCHWAGER- Sidney. 85, died suddenly on April 13, 2018. Born in Coney Island, he lived all of his life in New York: the Bronx, Larchmont, and Manhattan. Sid devoted his career to education--as a teacher, a New York City public school principal, and a software consultant. He was an alum of Dewitt Clinton High School and City College of New York, where he was a champion swimmer, and, as a Boy Scout, he was a proud member of the Order of the Arrow. Sid had fond memories of his Army service at Fort Bliss with a fun, creative group who remained lifelong friends. He was a beloved and devoted member of many communities, including Beth Emeth Synagogue, Central Park birders, Sherwood Forest in Brevard, NC, and Flint Park tennis and paddle courts in Larchmont. An avid birder, Sid recently added the 668th North American species to his life list. As suggested by his email address, "goodoldsid" was easygoing, happy and generous. He loved to tell a story, to sing a song, and to select gifts for his children and grandchildren. Sid lived fully each of his 85 years and went out as he would have wanted, playing paddle tennis with friends, and playing well. Sid dearly loved and is survived by his partner Margaret Thrower MacCary, his children Dan (Heather), Julie (Dan), grandchildren Zoe and Zadie, sister Carole, brother Irving, and nephews Jeff, Gary and Brian.
