Obituary of Perry S. Ury
Perry S. Ury, 91, a resident of West Hartford, CT for 36 years, passed away in Sarasota, FL on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017. He was predeceased by his wife Lorraine. He is survived by his two children, Frederic Ury (wife Debby) and Linda Ury Greenberg (husband Ned Greenberg). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Ury Gornbein (husband Jeffrey Gornbein), Michael Greenberg (wife Allison Smith Greenberg), Robert Ury, and Amanda Greenberg. He was also blessed to have three great-grandchildren: Benjamin Lincoln Gornbein, Jacob Emerson Gornbein, and Maya Leigh Greenberg.
Ury was a graduate of Baruch College/City College of New York in New York City. After serving in the Army during the Second World War, he began a long and illustrious career in radio.
He was a radio pioneer, who helped to found the rock and roll station WRKO-WROR in Boston, Massachusetts in 1967. He led WTIC AM/FM in Hartford, Connecticut from 1977-1988, and was President and COO of Chase Communications from 1988 to 1991. In 1983, he was Chair of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association and he served on numerous industry councils throughout his career.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, December 17 at John J. Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road in Larchmont, NY at 9:30 a.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Lorraine and Perry Ury Scholarship Fund at Lake Luzerne Music Center, 203 Lake Tour Road, P.O.
