Obituary of Margaret M. Clifford
Margaret M. Clifford, 88, of Larchmont NY, passed away on Oct. 11 after courageously battling a long-term illness. Beloved wife of the late Honorable Joseph P. Clifford, Margaret was born Oct. 16, 1922 in New York City to Mary and Philip Mulcahy.
Margaret graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City and married Joe in 1949. Her beloved sisters Mary Clare and Therese served as bridesmaids. She attended the Franklin School of Art and was later hired at Gibbs and Cox as one of the company's first female draftsmen. Among other jobs, she taught art in Catholic schools in the city and worked as a bookkeeper and interior decorator. After receiving her degree from Iona College, Margaret became a librarian for the Village of Larchmont, where she raised her family, was active in St. Augustine Parish, and enjoyed a full and lively life.
Margaret was matriarch of a large extended family.
She is survived by her loving children - Joe, Richard, Tom, Pam Bruschi, Jim, Phil and Kristin Clifford-Horton, as well as Mary Brennan. Her son Bobby passed earlier.
Margaret is also survived by 16 adoring grandchildren - Molly, Cealan, Devon, Nick, Graham and Declan Clifford; Mike, Matt, Mia and Mark Bruschi; Jack and Luke Clifford; Lindsay and Quenby Clifford; and Megan and Madeline Clifford-Horton - and two wonderful great-grandchildren, Marco Bruschi and Sienna Bruschi.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held with a Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in
