MANGONE - Robert Courtney
a longtime resident of Larchmont, NY, died on Monday, October 23, 2017. Diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor in September 2015, he fought the disease with courage and determination. He was 77 years old.
A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann, and daughters, Courtney and Christine (and her spouse Damon Kelliher); his grandsons, August ("Augie") and Tyler ("Ty") Kelliher; and his sister, Carolyn White.
Born in Manhattan, NY to the late Donald and Helen (née Courtney) Mangone, he was a graduate of Georgetown University and Harvard Law School. He served as captain in the U.S. Army in West Berlin, Germany where he was officer-in-charge of Checkpoint Charlie.
He was a retired partner of Fox Horan & Camerini LLP. He had a long and distinguished career in the practice of corporate finance and securities law in New York City. He was responsible for the legal work of a wide range of corporate and commercial activities, including public offerings of securities, private placements, acquisitions, and cross-border and domestic joint ventures. He was extensively involved in transnational securities matters, particularly in the use of American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in the global securities market.
He lived life to the fullest. He was an avid sailor for over 50 years, racing Etchells and Herreshoff S boats on Long Island Sound. He was a longtime member of the Larchmont Yacht Club where he served on the Race Committee and the Harvard Club of New York City. He was a strong advocate of education. He was proud to serve as a trustee of St. Francis College in Brooklyn for 26 years and Vice Chairman of the Board for 9 of those years. He loved time with his family and enjoyed getting together with friends, travel, mountain trekking, opera, and reading.
Visiting hours are Friday, October 27 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. Augustine in Larchmont on Saturday, October 28 at 10am.
