Obituary of Matthew T. Keane

Matthew Thomas Keane, long time resident of Larchmont, NY and a New Rochelle, NY native, died on Tuesday, October 3rd after complications from long-term physical issues. Matt was from a large, Irish family himself and then went on to have two sons of his own with his forever love and wife of 53 years, Joan Brady Keane. He is survived by his beloved wife and son, Joan and Terry Keane, his daughter-in-law, Meg Keane, and three grandchildren, Curtis, Lily and Mikayla Keane. He also leaves behind his older sister, Margaret Keane and older brother, Michael Keane and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Brendan Keane and two of his older brothers, Brian and John Keane. Devoted to Joan, Brendan and Terry, Matt chose to spend his time with his family and friends, spreading his witty sense of humor where he could and often offering unsolicited advice to his sons, such as how to properly mow a lawn, how often one should get a haircut and how much personal RESPONSIBILITY matters in life. One of his favorite memories of his and Joan's love affair, is during a trip to Florida when Matt and Joan visited a tattoo parlor. Matt got his "Betty Boop" for Joan, trying all along to convince Joan to get one for him. Joan lovingly declined, but they laughed all the way through his "inking." When growing up, Matt developed his high ethical standards through watching and learning from his parents and four older siblings. Born on June 29th, 1940 to William and Catherine Keane, Matt, the youngest of five, was raised in an apartment at 618 Main Street in New Rochelle. He attended college, graduating from Fordham University in 1963 where he received a B.A. in Business. During his professional career, Matt worked for the Meredith Publishing Corporation in advertising sales, where he became the East Coast manager. Drawing strength from Joan and Terry, Matt faced the challenges stemming from his deteriorating physical health with unfaltering courage and grace, seeking out pockets of joy. He would love to sit in the sun, always without lotion, and read, discuss golf scores, play the lottery with his lucky number, 618 and watch the Giants. He also cherished spending time with his grandchildren, celebrating in their childhood joys and boasting of their accomplishments to those around him. His legacy of love, family and courage is one to be admired. Friends may visit at the Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont, NY on Wednesday, Oct. 11th, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at St. Augustine's Church in Larchmont, NY at 11am on Thursday, Oct. 12th. Internment is private.
