Obituary of Joan Ann Thompson
Joan Ann Taylor Thompson, longtime Larchmont and Long Boat Key Florida resident died peacefully at home surrounded by her beloved family. Joan was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to Maisie (Jackman) and James Taylor on August 21, 1931. She attended the Bay Ridge Schools and graduated from Bay Ridge High School. Her family moved to Larchmont in 1948. She met her future husband at Larchmont Avenue Church where both families were members. She married Allen Lothrop Thompson in a double wedding at LAC with her sister Janet and Robert Henn on May 9, 1953. The couple settled in Larchmont, where they raised their family. She was pre-deceased by her husband who died in 2015. Survivors include sons James A. (Nancy), John B. (Ellen), daughter Janet and grandchildren Meagan, John (Jean), Lindsay, Steven (Kimberly), Christine, Gordon, Kathleen and William as well her sister Janet (Bob) and nieces and a nephew.
Joan was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She created a beautiful home where everyone was always welcome. As a cook extraordinaire, one never left her kitchen hungry. Her sewing skills were also much admired. Joan and her husband Allen had a wonderful social life. They were very active in the church's Doublet Group where they made many lifelong friends. They joined Larchmont Yacht Club in 1969 and were well known for their beautiful dancing. Joan was active in the Larchmont Women's Club, the Larchmont Garden Club and her beloved Stitch and Chat Group. Joan and Al loved to travel and went on many exotic trips. They often took their grandchildren and family with them on vacation.
All who knew Joan were struck by her kindness, gentleness and interest in others. She was a delight to be around and is leaving an incredible void.
Visiting Monday August 14th 6-9 PM at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. Memorial Service Tuesday August 15th 11 AM at Larchmont Avenue Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Calvary Hospital Hospice at Home would be appreciated.
