Obituary of Phyllis B. Young

Phyllis B. Young died on Feb. 28, having attained nearly the age 88. She had resided in Larchmont, with her husband, W.F. Young, since 1970. She was active in a number of local organizations, including the Larchmont Avenue Church, a chapter of P.E.O., and the Womans Club, in each of which she had been an officer. Mrs. Young was brought up on an apple orchard in Westport CT and attended Brown University, which conferred on her the "Brown Bear" award for support as an alumna. In New York City she worked for Lord & Taylor, and as an assistant buyer for Henri Bendel. She did skillful work in watercolors. Mr. and Mrs. Young traveled widely, often in connection with his teaching assignments around the country and abroad. He survives her. She is survived also by their son Andrew, his wife Noel, and their three daughters, all of Bethesda MD, by a sister, Martha, and her husband R.L. Ordeman, of Dayton OH, and by seven nephews and nieces. All in her family feel deeply the loss of her company.
