When I was a 22 new graduate of Mount Holyoke she was so kind to let me come visit her at sports illustrated to see what professional life was like and helped me secure an interview for an internship. For no reason or benefit to herself she just said yes when I sent an email to her after researching alums in journalism. What kindness and generosity she showed me. Now nearly 20 years later I still knew her name when I read about her passing in the alumnae quarterly. I didn’t know her in a personal way but everything I’ve read tells me she was a safe generous and kind with everyone as she was with me. I am so sorry for her loss and for her family. Sending all my condolences to those who loved and knew her.

Steve and family -- I'm shocked to learn of Bambi's passing. I'm one of her Mt. Holyoke classmates. (We suffered through some French classes together. More accurately, I should say, "I suffered" through these classes. Bambi was usually tilting the class curve up and to the right.) We actually first met on the field hockey field in high school. I was playing for Braintree High. Bambi for Wellesley High. As we were running down the field I heard, "go Bambi go!" I looked, yes, for a deer and instead I saw a pretty, blonde, swift-footed runner. Imagine my shock when a few month's later, there was a pretty, blonde woman named Bambi in my French class, wearing a Wellesley High School field hockey jacket! We reconnected a few years ago at our 35th(?) reunion. I remembered how vibrant she was, how she had a kindness and joie de vivre that was contagious. I'm so sad to hear that she suffered from pancreatic cancer -- a horrible disease. She suffers no more and there is a mercy in this. I never met any of you but I want you to know that I remember Bambi with great fondness and want to celebrate her life and legacy with you. May God bring each of you his comfort and peace in these days of remembering and sadness.

So vibrant. So caring. Brimming with love, life, and genuine curiously and concern for what matters. It's very hard to think that Bambi is gone. She changed my life in an important way, and I can only imagine how she did that for so many others. We will keep her in our hearts. My deepest condolences to Steve, their kids, Eva, and everyone else who loved her.

Bambi was one of a kind. She was a working mother who somehow found time to make the best costumes, and the sweetest sweets. I was in awe at how she did it all with such joy. Bo and Sarah had such a lovely friendship as children and Bambi (and Steve of course) encouraged it. Sarah loved playing in your apartment and her first ever sleepover in a boy's house was at the house in Larchmont not so long after you moved. It was a special friendship. It also meant Bambi and I got to chat at pick ups and every conversation ended in a smile, a laugh or an outright guffaw. My sincerest condolences go out to you Steve and to Bo, John, Eve and Elizabeth. I hope, over time, you will focus not on the loss but on how Bambi taught you to love.

Steve, Bambi made a difference in my life. I was taking a sabbatical and wrestling with the idea of actually leaving Time after a 25 year career. She made it possible. Few people in that position would have done that. She did. We went out for lunches and talked about the reporting staff and our families. She was a joy to be with ... positive, humorous, encouraging, warm and delightful. I am so sorry that she's no longer with us and send my most heartfelt sorrow at her loss. I was hoping I'd see her out here in Berkeley but that was not to be. I'm sure her family has the best memories of her love for them and all that she did as a mother and wife as well as a leader at Time.

Dear Eve and family, I am heartbroken at the news of your loss. Bambi was a natural friend. She was full of life, energy and passion to connect with people and get to know others. As a new member of the Bucknell parent community, she reached out to me and made me feel welcome. Little did I know what she was fighting inside. May her memory be a blessing and bring you peace. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

I was a reporter at Time. Half of my years there coincided with your beautiful wife and mother. Bambi was my advocate. As is true of so many in journalism, Bambi did not have a job, she had a vocation. And, above all, at her vocation, she had perspective. In 2006, when my parents ended up in the hospital, simultaneously, she arranged for me to take my six month sabbatical, immediately, because for one parent -- recovery would take six months and then some. My stress was escalating at the concerns of work and home. Instead Bambi came to the rescue and fixed it for me. When the time came for me to leave Time, she knew it was an anguished decision for me, and she helped me cope. I look over some of the annual holiday notes she sent. One says, "Dearest Lina - Was so happy to hear via Amy (Goehner) that you survived Hurricane Sandy - you were constantly in my thoughts..." (my area, Staten Island, was severely affected by the storm). She was a phenomenon. How did she excel at everything at work and home ??????? I will never know. I so wish I was able to spend more time with her. This monstrous disease, this beast, has no mercy. But, I am so happy to hear she prevailed over her illness these last three years on her own terms. She was still living a life well lived. As your magnificent obituary tells us, what a lesson she taught us. She closed the pages of her life on her own terms, with an utmost grace and a courage beyond comprehension. I will always remember her as I knew her, lithe, ethereal amidst breaking news, as she glided through the halls of Time, epitomizing the words she wrote in another holiday card, "Fancy free and Foot Loose...Memories are made of this." Dear Bambi's family - my prayers are with all of you, too. All of you fought alongside her. When one member of the family is ill, the whole family is ill. And it seems all of you achieved with her, the serenity she so sought and achieved for herself.

It was a sad message to hear about Bambi's passing away. I'm a part of Bambi's family in Norway and remember when she visited us in Hurdal when I was a youth. We are almost at the same age, and it was exciting to have a female visitor from US! Bambi and her 2 daughters visited us again some years ago. My prayer goes to the family.

Bambi befriended my sister and brother-in-law 30+ years ago. She shared in many of life's happiest moment with them. Much more importantly she shared in their life's worst moments. Bambi showed true love and modeled truest friendship during that time. For that I am very grateful. Bambi's spirit will live on in all of the lives she touched with her heart

To the person who taught me how to be thoughtful and to appreciate the love and joy of giving the perfect gift. I have yet to meet a more loving, considerate, thoughtful and all around amazing person. Here's to multiple Christmas Trees from November to March and the sounds of the holidays all year long. Thanks for letting me into your family and giving me the gift of your company and sharing your loving and amazing kids. Much love to you all and to the best darn matriarch anyone could ask for.

Jane 'Bambi' Wulf met, our 1st week at Mt Holyoke College. We shared many adventures together, both on & off campus! A favorite college memory, is from "Junior Year Abroad; she was in Paris, I was in Madrid. Bambi traveled by train to meet me in Spain, then we continued on for a week in Florence & Rome! We kept in close touch through the years, w/ visits and via her wonderful handwritten letters sharing news of her family and their accomplishments. She was so proud of them. I also met her parents Bob & Libby Bachman, early on; two of the most gracious people I've met. My heart goes out to all of Bambi's family and friends, she is an angel we will never ever forget.

Bambi was a living angel who brightened the lives of everyone she touched, usually from the very first moment of meeting. Those of us who had the great fortune to work with her at her beloved Sports Illustrated, and later, Time Magazine, will never forget her searing passion, intelligence, wit and dedicated leadership, nor, of course, that perpetual smile and those shining eyes that lit up every room she ever entered. We are all so grateful to have known her, and our hearts go out to Steve (the other half of the wonder couple of two centuries), Elizabeth, Eve, John and Bo. Her memory is already eternal.
