Obituary of Mekala J. Reddi

Doctor Mekala J. Reddi 1934-2017 Doctor Mekala J. Reddi was laid to rest in a private ceremony on Monday. Mekala passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving wife, daughter, and son-in-law on March 30, 2017. Even in his final days, Mekala found time to fondly share stories about individual students whose lives he touched during his 32-year tenure as a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Purchase College. He never forgot the New Yorkers who took him under their wings when he first arrived from India as an NYU graduate student in Physics in 1963 after graduating with a Master of Science from Andhra University. Mekala soon fell in love with his adopted home. After earning his PhD, it was here that he raised his family while at the same time sharing his extraordinary knowledge with his students and working tirelessly to help encourage and support his extended family back in India. Doctor Reddi was gratified by the many remarkable achievements of his storied career, particularly his groundbreaking work with NASA and his years of teaching physics, mathematics, and computer science to generations of students. But it was when he spoke of the tight-knit family who loved him deeply and his close personal friends that he genuinely beamed with pride.
