I will miss my many chats with "Uncle" Henry. What a great and lovable man who taught me so much about life and friendship. The Angels have carried you home. RIP

Hardinge, you were the best! Your witness lives on through all you designed and built. And particularly through the many lives you impacted. Rest in peace, intercede for us!

Having recently received a Christmas card from Henry something I looked forward to every year since we first met in the late 1980's, his passing is felt with great sadness as I've lost a friend and mentor of almost 30 years. We shared many stories of his home town of Hickory NC a town I was intensely familiar because of my furniture and oriental rug business. I was so pleased to have been given the opportunity to serve the needs of his residence and his architectural projects. More though was his candid and enlightening discussions at nights of recollection at St. Aloysius in CT to discussion on the design of furniture and rugs and there historical importance. Somehow this always made sense to us and I will miss his husky laugh and practical reflections. Thank you for enriching my life...I will miss you good friend.

Henry Menzies was a friend's friend who wrote "Whatever Happened to Friendship: Reflections on Lost Adventure" as a lasting treasure. A member of the Greatest Generation, he never spoke of his many achievements.

I never actually met Henry, though we exchanged emails from time to time. I greatly admired his work, his personality and his spirit. We talked some about architecture, and he gave me some ideas and a drawing for an office renovation. He also sent me a breathtaking copy of a chapel plan he had drawn, for free and without my asking. I treasure it and show it to people now and then. I expect I'll frame it. He worked on a book and asked me for some anecdotes about friendship, which I wrote and sent to him. He knew so much. I recall one of our email conversations about the various kinds of the color blue that different peoples prefer in church decor. His Christmas cards were instructive and beautiful. I don't expect to meet a better person than Henry. Now and then I look at his portfolio on line, and I hope it isn't taken down soon.
