Obituary of Peter J. Marcon
Peter James Marcon, Sr., 87, died peacefully on January 21, 2017 surrounded by his family. Originally from Lakeville, CT, he was a longtime resident of Larchmont, NY. He was the son of Angelo Marcon and Maria Sebben Marcon and the youngest of six children. Predeceased by brother John and sister Constance, he is survived by three sisters, Rena Depuyk of Poughkeepsie, NY, Angie Possidente of Middletown, CT, and Mary Stanton of Orange, CT. He attended Springfield College, receiving both undergraduate and masters degrees in the fields of Athletics and Education, later furthering his studies with a doctorate degree in Education, attending both NYU and Fordham University. He served in the United States Army for two years in the capacity of Chaplain's Aid during the Korean War. Beginning a lifetime career in the field of education, he spent 39 years at Rye High School. He coached baseball, wrestling, and football, including the coaching of his football team one season against Vince Lombardi and Sam Rutigliano. For the last 25 years of his Rye High School career, he was Director of Guidance. He authored a book, The Key to College Admissions, and numerous articles for educational publications. In recent years, he served as an Adjunct Professor at Long Island University Graduate School of Education. He was an active member of Sts. John and Paul Parish, serving as a member of the Parish Council, Education Chair, Altar Server, and Eucharistic Minister. An avid tennis player, he had been a member of the Larchmont Shore Club since 1971. He served for a number of years as board member and as President. He was also actively involved in numerous charitable volunteer organizations including Meals on Wheels, teaching English to adult learners, Knights of Columbus, Home on the Sound, and the Admissions Selection Committee for West Point Military Academy. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Kathleen Tobin Marcon, 5 children, Elizabeth M. Carlucci (Steven), M. Katherine Marcon, Peter J. Marcon, Jr. (Maura), William J. Marcon (Karen), and Christopher T. Marcon (Louise), and 7 grandchildren, Christopher Carlucci, Gregory Carlucci, George Tricomi, Molly Tricomi, Kathryn Marcon, Will Greco, and Jennifer Greco.
Visiting will be Tuesday January 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. Mass Wednesday, January 25th, at 10 AM at Sts. John & Paul Church in Larchmont. Interment at St. John's Cemetery, Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Larchmont/Mamaroneck VAC or Town of Mamaroneck Fire Dept.
