Obituary of Martin S. Sternberg
Martin Stephen Sternberg drew his last breath on the morning of December 29, 2016 surrounded by angels of love and devotion. He was 79 years old.
He fought a valiant and noble battle against what he deemed a pernicious disease: Parkinson's.
Diagnosed in his 40's Marty's life exemplified a man undaunted by obstacles. Not once did he complain, not once did he succumb to bitterness, not once did he rail against its indiscriminate unfairness.
He served as a lieutenant JG specializing in cryptography aboard the USS Lake Champlain (CVS-39) during the Cuban Missile Blockade then forged through life as a stock broker, docent on the Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum, guest business lecturer at Stuyvesant High School and Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY), model ship builder, house painter, tinkerer and loyal friend. A Yankee fan since birth.
As a fellow colleague extolled at his retirement party from Morgan Stanley "No greater man of moral character and honesty there is."
He leaves behind a heart-broken wife Darcy, loving son Douglas and wife Stacey, loving sister-in-law Terry and loving mother-in-law Bonnie and many, many friends whose lunch dates will never quite be the same without Marty's charm, good nature and infectious laugh.
My beloved, we wish you "fair winds and a following sea."
